“Not happening.”

“What?” She had a horrible feeling she was going to keep saying that one word for a long time.

“You heard me. I’m not going to grant you a divorce. I married you, for better or for worse. You came to me a virgin, and there is no fucking way you’re going to annul this marriage. I saw those damn sheets. I fucked you and made you bleed.”

Eve glared at him.

Their wedding night, Grim had been so … remorseful. Yes, there had been pain, as she knew there would be, and he’d been so sweet, so kind, so tender, but also riddled with guilt for hurting her.

He told her that no matter what, he would never hurt her, and yet the first chance he got… Eve paused. Grim hadn’t hurt her.

Two of his men had found her on the streets and carefully brought her back to Grim’s home, where she’d been delicately placed in their bedroom. He locked her inside, but at no point had Grim hurt her.

Eve clenched her hands into fists. Not once. Other than her wedding night.

He’d pushed her hair off her face, stared into her eyes, and made a vow that he would never hurt her. Grim never had. Until she learned the truth.

“So … what? You won’t grant me the divorce, so you’re going to keep me locked up here until when? Until I accept the man I married? Until I accept all the lies you tell me?”

Grim sighed and he grabbed a chair, pulling it in front of her. He sat down, their knees almost touching, and Eve pulled back, crossed her knees one over the other, and glared at him, waiting. She didn’t like him being this close. He was still her husband.

Those feelings she kept trying to squash were not going to disappear overnight. She loved Grim, even knowing what she did now. So very much. And her attraction was still there.

She sunk her nails into the palms of her hands, hoping the bite of pain would keep her grounded. Not think about how much she loved his hair. When they were alone, and he was driving his cock inside her, she loved to run her fingers through his hair. It was short, yet silky soft, and she loved the feel of it between her fingers.

There was so much she loved about Grim, not just because of her feelings, but his body. He was bigger than her, muscular, but his height and strength didn’t scare her. It aroused her. Turned her on.

She felt protected by him. Whenever he was close, she knew he was going to take care of her. He’d probably proven that more than she cared to know about.

Eve fought with herself, but then she lifted her gaze and looked into his eyes. Yes, she still loved this man, that was never going to change, but she wasn’t going to give in to him.

This man was a monster.

He may not be a liar, but that didn’t change what he’d done. And Eve was never going to forgive him for it.

Chapter Three

Eve was so easy to read.

Grim had always been able to read her like a book. Right now, she hurt, but he also knew she still loved him. She’d fallen in love with him months ago. Her own words, not his. In fact, if his memory served, she had once said she had fallen in love with him after just a week of knowing each other. He couldn’t remember exactly what he had done to make her fall for him, but that didn’t matter. Eve had fallen for him, and he would do anything for her.

Staring at her now, he knew she was afraid, knew she struggled with her feelings for him. They had only been married for six months, but they’d been together a year, and he had come to know a great deal about his woman. He knew she loved it when he was close. On some of the days when she struggled, she loved when he wrapped his arms around her and made the world disappear. She loved to feel protected and safe. But he also knew what she loved, what made her ache for him. How the small touch of his fingers down her arm, or across the right spot on her neck, seemed to melt her against him. There was no denying those feelings, even though she tried.

“Ask me,” he said.

She could keep her legs folded and try to create a distance between them for now, but it wasn’t going to last. He wouldn’t allow it.

“What?”

Eve had said that word a lot and he knew it was starting to grate on her last nerve because she hated it so much.

“Ask me anything.”

“Why?”

“Because if you want the truth and you’re ready for the truth, then ask away. I’m not going to lie to you, but remember, Eve, be ready for the answers.”
