“I feel like you’re just wanting to get fucked so you can pretend you don’t have to deal with your clusterfuck family shit that’s waiting for you downstairs.”

“To be fair, that’s only half the reason.”

I wanted to pretend we could enjoy each other a little longer without having to deal with the less fun parts of the night…or wondering what Big Daddy would have thought if he knew where most of his family had spent the night.

“I didn’t realize you’d be so hungry for my dick inside you.”

“I told you I go slow until I go fast.”

“And when you go fast, damn.”

I beamed with pride. “Just needed you to show me how to do it so that I can show you how much better I am at it than you.”

“Oh, really? So cocky, and you’ve never even fucked a man before.”

“I have a pretty good teacher.” I pulled away from his neck, looking into his pretty eyes as I ran my finger and thumb along the side of his cheek. “Looks like I’m gonna have to teach you to take it as good as you give it.” I winked, and as I leaned in for a kiss, a loud clanging sound came from downstairs. Followed by some more.

“The fuck?” I asked, both our heads turning toward the door.

What was my family up to down there?

Whatever it was, it was time to face the music, so Cohen loaned me some clothes, and as we got dressed, I accepted the cruel fact that I would have to deal with this morning wood later.

When we stepped out of the bedroom, I glanced over the upstairs hall banister, into the living room, expecting to see Dwain and Lee, but they weren’t there. Chatter came from the kitchen, and as we made our way there, I could see the familiar neon-pink hair near the stove.

“Mel?” I approached the kitchen and noticed Walker, Dwain, and Lee at the table. Dwain looked as hungover as he must’ve felt, considering how he’d behaved the night before.

“Sorry, I hope I didn’t wake you guys,” she said. “I didn’t know that the pots and pans would be such a booby trap.” She picked a pot off the floor and added it to a stack on the counter.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her. “Aren’t you supposed to be making excuses with Big Daddy?”

“Already covered that. Big Daddy’s convinced you’re having some brotherly bonding time in the woods. He thought it was a great idea. And it’s half-truthful, at least, so I don’t have to feel like the lyingest liar who ever lied once he finds out. Now, I’m making eggs, so what do you want, Brodes? Omelette or over easy?”

Cohen leaned close to my ear. “I took care of the over easy, so you might want to go with the omelette.”

I knew he was just trying to get me to chuckle, but my stomach was twisted in knots now that I was having to confront so much of what had come up the night before.

“Lee, can you grab me some things from the fridge?” Mel asked. “Whatever you find that I can make work.”

He hopped up from beside Dwain and headed for the fridge.

“Dwain was telling me you guys went to a fun bar without me,” Mel went on, “so…I accept deets and apologies.”

I aimed dagger-eyes at my treacherous bro. “As loose-lipped as last night, I see.”

He glared right back. “Don’t even start with me, traitor. I have a hangover like nothing.” He pressed his hand against his forehead.

“How did you even get that drunk?”

“I just wanted one. Thought it was going to be enough to calm me down, since I wanted to fucking go up to you and put you in your place for how you were dishonoring our family. But then one drink turned into two…and then this kid got me started on shots ’cause it was his birthday. And then he wanted a birthday kiss.”

“You didn’t think we’d see it?”

“I thought it was going to be a little peck.”

“That was more than a peck,” I assured him.

He got a dreamy look in his eyes. “Damn right it was.”

“Jesus, Dwain, you are a dummy,” Walker said.

“Oh, are you the one in charge of smart drunken decisions, is that how it is? Besides, I haven’t gotten anything in a long time.”

Lee, who was helping Mel at the stove, glared at him.

“Look, it’s been a while for me,” he said before Lee had a chance to speak up. “Tucker and I haven’t seen each other in months. That’s where I was really going, not Angela’s.”

“Ooh, what a very queer turn of events,” Isaac said as he headed into the kitchen in just a pair of white side-split boxers. “I hope I haven’t missed breakfast, especially all the tea you guys are spilling.”
