Chapter Four
“Carly, I can help you with the cleanup later,” Sarah said.
“It’s fine. You know, Nate and I have some important things to discuss. I’ll call you if I need a ride home,” Carly said.
“I’ll take care of her,” Nate said.
He was closed off.
Sarah offered the two of them a smile. She struggled to contain her excitement. Moving toward Carly, she pulled her in for a hug and gave her a big squeeze. She hoped tonight went well between the two of them. Next, she moved on to Nate and hugged him as well. He placed a hand on her back, giving it a rub.
That was true affection from Nate. All Sarah hoped for was that he did a better job when it came to Carly.
Dalton, Mitch, Reese, and Misha had already said their goodbyes. Reese and Misha had left while Dalton and Mitch were waiting to take her home.
She gave a final wave to her friend and climbed into the back of the car. Mitch was driving and Sarah watched as Nate and Carly stayed on the main step until they could no longer see the car. The moment she couldn’t see them anymore, she turned back around to face the front.
“Do you think we should be worried about what was going on there?” Dalton asked.
“Nope,” Sarah said.
Both men glanced at her. Mitch did so in the mirror, while Dalton turned around.
“What did you do?” Mitch asked.
“Simple, I told Nate about a certain conversation, and I decided to let nature play its course, and it did so very well. I have a feeling we’re going to see a new mommy and daddy in no time.”
She might also have sneaked near the kitchen when she noticed Carly and Nate hadn’t returned for quite some time.
What she heard was sweet music to her ears. She only hoped that Nate didn’t screw this up, and Carly’s nerves didn’t get the better of her.

Nate sat on the edge of the bed and waited for Carly to come back to him. She’d disappeared into the bathroom five minutes ago. He’d heard the shower run for a few minutes. He had already done a great deal of pacing.
Sarah had left him a text, to be nice, which didn’t help. He was always nice, or at least tried to be as nice as possible, especially when it came to Carly.
Running a hand down his face, he couldn’t help but think about Carly as a virgin. It had been as expected as it was unexpected. He’d not given a single man a chance to get close to her. Even when they were teenagers, no one had been allowed near Carly. Admittedly, Carly had also been a giant bookworm, which made his life easier.
The door to the bathroom opened, and Carly stepped out. She wore one of the smaller bathrobes he had on hand. When he purchased them, he did have Carly in mind, but she didn’t know that. She moved toward him, but did so hesitantly, as if she wasn’t quite sure of herself.
He didn’t want her to be nervous, but this was all new to her.
Carly stepped in front of him and her gaze was at his feet, and then slowly began to travel up, until she suddenly looked into his eyes.
She had the prettiest brown eyes he’d ever seen. They were so beautiful and sweet, he would gladly drown in her gaze for all eternity. The sweet warmth of her smile, the charming curl of her lip.
This woman was everything to him, which is why he knew no other man could ever compare. None of them knew how precious she was, how sweet, how amazing a gem she was.
Nate gave them a chance. They could fight for her, but all of them had walked away. Some of them had been bought off as well. None of them were willing to do what was necessary to keep her. He would.
Staring at her now, he couldn’t help but feel so drawn to her.
Her hands were clenched at her sides, and he reached out, taking one of her hands within his. He didn’t have to pry open her fingers, but she opened them, and he locked his fingers between hers, then he stood up. This caused her to tilt her head back as she looked at him.
She was so stunningly beautiful. Took his breath away.
“Hello,” he said.
She smiled at him. “Hello.”
“I don’t want you to be nervous.”
“I can’t help it. It’s kind of surreal and we’re here, and we’re … you know … doing this.” She licked her lips.
