Rae

I wake up to utter warmth. For half a second, I wonder if the freaking air conditioner stopped working again. Then I feel my body rise and fall. My eyes flutter open, and I can’t help but smile. I fell asleep and somehow ended up lying on top of Ivan.

I’m completely naked besides the sheet covering us. I suppose this is really the only way we could both fit in the bed comfortably. Honestly, I don’t know when I ended up crashing, but I know it was in the midst of pleasure.

Ivan devoured me like a starved animal. The man couldn’t get enough of me. He hadn’t even tried to make a move for me to get him off or push things further. He was content with his face buried between my thighs. I’m not complaining one bit.

I shift, trying to relieve the ache between my legs. It reminds me of that one time I went on a trip and we rode horses. I lift my head to see Ivan is still fast asleep. For once, he looks relaxed. There is no stiffness to his body. One of his hands rests on my back, holding me in place. I really don’t want to move, but my bladder is going to make me.

As gently as I can, I slip out from his hold and off the bed. I see his shirt lying on the floor. I grab it, pulling it over my head before I leave my bedroom for the bathroom. I’m not sure if Travis is home or not. Thankfully, I don’t see him and make it to the bathroom and do what I need to.

When I catch a look at myself in the mirror, I almost cringe. At some point, my hair came undone. It’s sticking up in all different directions. I quickly pull it back up, not wanting to be a total hot mess when Ivan wakes.

Then what? What will happen when he wakes up? I know he talked about taking a trip, but with how serious he always is, I don’t actually know if he was joking. The knot of anxiety that started to form in my stomach stops instantly, knowing Ivan isn’t the type to wake up and go flying out the door. I can’t even imagine him doing the walk of shame.

I could make him breakfast! The thought pops into my head as I leave the bathroom. No, I can’t do that. If he’s not already, Travis will be home at some point. That could be awkward. He has never brought a girl back here, and I know it’s not because he can’t land one. I’m guessing it’s out of respect for me, but now I've gone and brought a man home. I’m not really sure how he’ll react to that.

Technically, Ivan brought me home like a true gentleman. Then he did very ungentlemanly things to my body. Well, that’s what my brother would think, at least. But I’d beg to differ. As a matter of fact, I’d say they were very gentlemanlike. In fact, I’ve heard some men don’t even do that. That shouldn’t even be a thing.

“Hey.” Travis startles me the second I step out into the hallway. “You okay?” I bet I look like a deer caught in headlights.

“Why wouldn’t I be okay?” I rush to say, trying to feign as if everything is normal. As though I don’t have a naked man in my bedroom. Thank God I got my hair under control.

“Well, it’s after ten, and JJ is freaking out that she hasn’t heard from you. I was about to knock on your bedroom door.” Shit, I always text JJ when I get home the nights I work at the bar. I did that even when she didn’t live around here anymore. We always checked it. She did the same, but since she’s gotten with Vincent, he’s who makes sure she’s always safe and sound at night.

“I’m fine,” I squeak out. What is wrong with me? Act normal or he’ll get suspicious, I tell myself over and over again.

“Fine?” He cocks his head to the side. His eyes start to roam over me, but as they do, a knock sounds at the door. I’ve never been so relieved to be saved by the bell. That is until I hear the voice that’s on the other side of it. Crap.

“I know you’re in there. The only reason I’m knocking is because I rushed out of the house and forgot my key,” JJ yells from outside my apartment. I take a deep breath, knowing I have no other option but to open the door. She’s not going to go away.

“You’re up early,” I say as I swing the door open, trying to distract her.

“Is this how you’re going to play it?” She narrows her eyes at me before making her way inside. “Something is going on.” She glances around the living room. “Is it the diner guy? Did something happen?” Her face lights up. JJ has been all over me to get a peek at the man I’ve been crushing on.
