The cabin was cold since we’d been out all day, so we got the fires going in the living room and bedroom before stripping down and climbing into bed. Then we started from the top again with a deep kiss.

We took our time and savored each other, and it was a revelation. Sex with Malcolm had always been wonderful, but now that our connection was deeper and stronger, it was even better. We both knew we could relax and let ourselves go, and that was incredibly freeing.

By the time Malcolm put on a condom and slipped inside me, we’d spent over an hour licking, and kissing, and exploring each other. I straddled him and rode his cock, my body and his moving together in a perfect rhythm. He held my gaze as he murmured, “You’re so beautiful, Daniel. My god.”

When I leaned down and kissed him, he caught me in his arms and rolled us over. I grinned as I hooked my legs around his waist. Then, as he fucked me with a slow, sensual roll of his hips, I memorized every detail of his handsome face, from the curve of his lips to the sparkle in his dark eyes.

This man and this moment were absolutely everything I could ever ask for. It felt so good, so perfect. So right.

He shifted slightly and started nailing my prostate, and intense sensation and pleasure shut down my higher brain functions. Within minutes, I came hands-free. Soon after, he came too, throwing his head back as he all but growled.

I loved the contrast between his public and private personas. To the world, he might seem quiet and introverted. But I was lucky enough to see this other side of him, the one where he was bold, and primal, and totally in control.

Afterwards, when we’d both gotten cleaned up and were tucked under the covers, Mal said, “Let’s promise each other that no matter how busy and out of control the next two days are, we’ll still find time for the two of us.”

I kissed him and whispered, “Absolutely.”

As we settled in, I put my head on his chest, and he held me securely. I’d never felt so safe, and so cared for. I hadn’t even realized how much I needed to feel that way, or that it had been missing from my life—not until Malcolm provided it so effortlessly.

We ended up talking late into the night, about any random subject that came to mind. Meanwhile, the fire crackled, the rain came down outside, and this cabin felt like the coziest place in the entire world.

The next morning, we lingered over coffee on the deck. It had temporarily stopped raining, and the sunlight sparkled on the water. Our friend the seal had come back, and we watched him for a while before reluctantly going inside to pack. It felt like we’d barely gotten to enjoy that amazing cabin, and now it was already time to move over to the lodge.

Our suite ended up being spectacular, though. “This is so nice,” I said, as I bounced on the edge of the mattress. “It’s too bad we’ll see so little of it.”

We’d ended up in the Grizzly Suite, named for a huge carved wood wall panel in the living room, which depicted bears catching fish in a river. Like the rest of the lodge, the room managed to be elegant and modern, while still incorporating woodsy charm.

Malcolm crossed the room to me and put his hands on my shoulders. “Remember what we promised? We’re going to find time to be alone, no matter what.”

“We will. But just FYI, I got twenty-two texts from Joy before we even got out of bed this morning, and our to-do list has reached truly staggering proportions.”

“At least she’ll be here and can start helping in about ten hours.”

“Out of curiosity, where’s the groom during all of this? Joy has an awfully good excuse for not being able to make it until tonight,” I said. “But shouldn’t ol’ Felix what’s-his-name be here, pitching in? It’s his wedding, too.”

“Be glad he isn’t. If he was here, all he’d be doing was complaining, threatening to sue the lodge, and trying to get someone fired because of the mudslide.”

“Seriously? That’s who Joy is marrying?”

“It is.”

“But why?”

Malcolm shrugged. “She loves him, and I guess she sees something in him that I don’t.”

My phone buzzed, and I glanced at the screen and got up. “The hotel staff is in the process of turning one of their banquet rooms into a staging area for the gift baskets and party favors, and they want our input on how it should be set up. This was a nice, relaxing ninety seconds in the suite.”

“Let’s make it an even two minutes.” He pulled me close and kissed me, which made me smile. As he nuzzled my hair, he told me, “We should try to come back here for dinner. Once Joy arrives, I have a feeling she’ll keep us busy well into the night.”
