“Christ.” His voice is ragged. He sounds slightly out of breath. “Don’t move yet.” I lean my head on my arm, trying to catch my own breath as everything comes back into focus.

Suddenly I’m aware of smells, sounds. “Oh my God.” My face is on the dirty stairwell? What is wrong with me?

I look back at him as he zips up his slacks and jerks off his tie, leaning down to clean up as much as he can, which is absurd. He came so much, it’s trickling down my right thigh.

“I can’t believe you.” My cheeks are on fire. I turn and follow his eyes as they take in my swollen, bruised knees.

“Look at me. I can’t go inside like this. Oh my God.” I bring up my hands, which are black, including my forearms.

“Take it easy. I have a shower.” His mouth twitches, and he briefly looks down at my feet, then back at my face.

“What did you do to me?” I cover my mouth with my hands, only to have him grab them.

“Let’s not touch your face, babe.” He reaches for my slacks and shakes them out as my tiny black panties land in the corner.

I blink at him. His mouth twitches, and then he throws his head back to laugh.

“Baby, I’m sorry, but you look… amazing.” He keeps laughing.

“So much so that you’re laughing?” I cock my head but feel my own lips twitch.

He pulls me into his arms. “You look thoroughly fucked.” He kisses my lips. “I like you filthy and hot.” His lips trail to my eyes.

My head falls back. How does he do this? One minute, I hate him, the next moment he can do no wrong.

“Come on, let’s get you dressed.”

My gaze shifts to my panties.

“Let’s not worry about them.” Again, his mouth twitches.

“You’re the worst.” I pull away, taking my slacks from him, using his hand to steady me since my legs are shaking.

“Here.” He crouches down, and I watch as he gently puts each of my dirty feet in my fabulous Louboutin pumps. I could cry feeling the dirt on the clean leather.

“There. All better.” He looks up, and for a second I gasp for air.

Breathless.

That’s the only word that comes to my mind. With his dark hair and full lips forming a broad smile, he’s breathless. His blue eyes hold me hostage. Every time I look at him, I lose a bit of myself…but gain a bit of him.

God, my heart is pounding so loud, he has to hear it. He stands. I swallow. His eyes change, and he isn’t smiling anymore. Can he feel this? Does he know that together we’re complete?

Jett has become my everything. Brilliant, controlling, my missing piece.

This is the moment I accept my truths.

Somehow, some way, I’ve fallen in love with him despite knowing he’s not mine.

Holy fuck.

I’m in love with Jett Powers, my mother’s fiancé.

JETT

I don’t know what possessed me to think it was a good idea to bring Raven not only into my office, but now to the courtroom where she sits next to me.

It feels too intimate, but after the stairwell incident, everything has become heightened.

I gave up trying to deny myself of her. I’ve rationalized that I will end it. She’s going back to school in a month. Until then, I’m a selfish bastard who might be fucked, because we’re getting into a routine. She’s up and ready to leave by seven in the morning. We’re out the door and stopping for coffees and shit for my office by seven thirty, and I’m at my desk working by eight.

My office is getting spoiled. Screw that, I’m getting spoiled.

She’s taken over going through my depositions and highlighting anything that’s off.

Christ, I walked in on her yesterday schooling Mike, one of my best lawyers, on environmental law. He had to ruin it by asking her out. I almost fired him on the spot, but he was saved by Raven saying she had a boyfriend.

Boyfriend.

It’s almost comical. I guess that’s me. Considering how many hours we spend together, you’d think she’d start to aggravate me. I adore Rebecca, but even with her I have a ten-minute tolerance time span. After that, I’m done.

Apparently, that rule doesn’t apply to Raven. The more time I spend with her, the more I like her. And this is not just her tight pussy. I’m borderline obsessed with her mind. She’s incredibly sharp. She keeps up with me, challenges me, then submits.

My phone vibrates. I look over at her, typing on her laptop as she glances up and flashes me a smile that makes my chest hurt.

The fuck is happening to me? I’m hardly a kid. These kinds of things like smiling and touching are for other men, not me. She’s wearing her hair down today. Long, dark chocolate waves spill over her shoulder. My hand almost tingles with the need to touch the silken strands.
