“Heard the conversation, babe. He’s a dick.”

“You heard but you didn’t see. His eyes wouldn’t stop swinging around the room, and he was twitchy. Especially when Rowan told him to check out the safe.”

“Caught the signs in his voice. I told her to always trust her gut.”

“Her gut’s telling her he’s involved.”

“So is mine. That’s why Craig is back to the top person of interest. We’ll have to play it sharp because, with his alibi, there is no cause. But Robbie and Finn don’t work for the PD.”

Understanding washes over her, and she frames my jaw, placing her forehead to mine.

“It’s a good thing I love you or I’d be clawing your eyes out right now.”

“Tell me you love me when you can’t walk tomorrow.”

A new heat flares, hunger building in her gaze. My cock stiffens in response.

“You want to spank me, there’s a chance I might like it. You want to fuck me until I learn a lesson, that may even be fun. The handcuffs are absolutely no problem. We get wild, try new things, I’m game. But only if it’s out of passion and not irritation.”

I thrust up, her eyes glimmering at the realization of what she’s caused. “After I work out my irritation, we’ll work on that passion.”

“Luckily, I cleared my afternoon.”

Jewls

“Hand over the drill.” Justin holds out his hand, shooting me a dirty look.

“Get another one.”

“That’s mine. You get another one.”

“Yours is the best.”

“That’s because I don’t fuck around with tools.”

“Seriously, Jewls, not to be a dick, but hand it over so we can get this shit done. I’m fucking ready for a drink,” Toby grumbles.

“No shit,” Caleb joins his grumbling.

I’ve spent a lifetime growing up with these three and recognize the signs. My brothers’ and cousins’ tolerance is drawing to a close.

“Fine.” I hand over the drill. “I’ll bring you all a cold beer.”

“On it!” Harley strides in, dishing out three bottles.

“Finally, I knew you always loved me.” Toby flashes her a cheeky grin.

“You know you moved her into the house her fiancé built her?”

The assembly comes to a halt as the three of them share a look and shrug.

“She’s not married yet. There’s still hope.” Caleb wiggles his eyebrows, earning a giggle from Harley.

“Ace hears that, your lives are over.”

“Take my chances.” Justin takes a long slug of his beer.

A chime rings, alerting us to another arrival, and Harley bounces. “That’s Dad. He has the last boxes.”

She rushes out, and I groan at her energy.

Harley’s been an energizer bunny on crack since they closed on her house this week. The builders finished before the deadline, making her and Ace official homeowners.

When Harley mentioned the idea of moving into the house this weekend while the guys were gone for Reserves, I thought it was a great idea. I made the mistake of mentioning it to my mom, and within the hour, my brothers wormed their way into the mix. Justin joined them.

It’s taken most of the day for us to unload her storage unit and move her things into the house. We’ve finished two of her four bathrooms, organized her kitchen with the basics, unloaded her old living room furniture, and once this bed is done, her guest room is complete.

She left the master bedroom for when Ace returns from the weekend.

All day, she’s been running on adrenaline, and at this point, a Mack Truck has hit me.

“Sis, you okay?” Toby’s eyes are clouded with concern.

“Yeah, why?”

“You’re looking pale.”

“I’m exhausted. We were up at dawn waiting on y’all.”

“You sure that’s it?”

I don’t mention the fact that Major and I had an afternoon of non-stop sex before he left.

“Yeah, plus I stayed up last night slaving over a home-cooked meal.”

“You cooked?” Caleb looks horrified. “Do you hate us?”

“No, numb nuts, I love you. And when you taste it, you’ll fall at my feet in admiration.”

“She hates us. She’s poisoning us to fall at her rancid feet and killing us off.”

They double over in laughter, and the embarrassment from years ago spreads from head to toe. Another of our cousins decided to play a practical joke that resulted in a foul foot odor that lasted for days. “That was one time, and it wasn’t my fault.”

“Whatever you say.” The zings of the drills drown out any protest.

It’ll be fun to hear them eat their words. Cindy eagerly gave me the family recipe for the lasagna Major made for our first actual date.

“And that’s a wrap.” Toby points the end of his drill to the ceiling and revs it once more. “We are done.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Harley bounces back into the room, her arms piled high with linens.

“Want help making the bed?”

“No, you all are off duty. Go back to the house. My parents and I are finishing a few things, and we’ll meet you there.”
