Huh. He’d been way off base then. Thane decided to ignore the double meaning in Julian’s comment and looked out over the bar instead. The club had been decorated festively in bright Mardi Gras colors and shades of purple lighting. Julian had a flair for setting the scene, and from the looks of the crowd, they loved what he’d done. He hadn’t even glanced in that direction when he’d first arrived or he’d have praised Julian sooner.
“You’re doing good,” he said absently, tucking his hands in his slacks pockets. He had to give it to Julian, pain in the ass or not, he filled this club with paying customers and watched over all Thane’s pennies as if they were his own.
“That’s the guy I hired. The one I told you about.”
Thane had no recollection and followed Julian’s finger to a group of three servers waiting at the bar for their drinks to be poured. His eyes were immediately drawn to a very delectable ass in shimmery purple briefs standing away from the other two. Even though all the servers wore the same thing, there was just something about the one standing awkwardly on the end, something that caught his eye. Thane cocked a brow as he stirred a little down south, which was remarkable considering his exhaustion level. A different time or place and he might try to draw the group of sexy men back to his suite. Honestly, there wasn’t a mediocre one in the mix.
“His background report came back clean, like I knew it would.”
“What are you talking about?” Thane finally asked, not bothering to look at Julian. He was far more interested in what was going on down at the bar.
“Two weeks ago, early in the week, I called about hiring outside of policy.” Julian’s comment about breaking rules got his attention and drew Thane’s gaze from the tempting men and that extraordinary rear he was admiring at the moment.
“And I told you not to hire him.” That intense focus now landed on Julian who hadn’t turned his way.
“And I told you I was going to anyway. He’s doing great. A top earner. His sales are some of the highest on the floor.” Julian used his well-manicured fingernail to tap the glass, like pointing from this far away would give him any clue as to which one of the guys he was.
“Does anyone else know you did that, Julian? I should fire your ass right now.” Thane refused to be thwarted from this discipline. Julian couldn’t just act on his own like this. His corporate trainers were right, Julian did things impulsively and he had to stop.
“But you won’t. Now stop being such a meanie and pay attention. That’s him right there.” Julian tapped the glass again, drawing his focus back to the floor. Julian’s reprimand was all but forgotten as one man in particular turned from the bar, the owner of the perfect ass he’d been admiring only a minute ago.
Thane’s breath caught in his throat; the new guy was gorgeous. Even in the mask, Thane could see the boyish good looks. He seemed a little unsteady as he moved across the lounge floor with a tray full of drinks balanced on his palm, but his presence still commanded attention.
Besides, Thane didn’t give a shit how the guy handled a tray, all he cared about was how well Mr. Perfect-ass knew his way around a cock. Thane’s dick grew instantly hard. There was no use in trying to deny the immediate attraction. The new hire was every boy-next-door fantasy come to life. Thane took his time ogling the waiter, taking in every flex of muscle as he cut his way through the crowd. He let his gaze roam slowly up his body, from the stark white high-tops on his feet all the way up those muscular legs, thick thighs, cut abs, expansive chest and broad shoulders. His body was perfect, no doubt, but it was the face that had his heart hammering in his chest.
Dear God, his lips were full and pouty, perfectly fleshy and made for wrapping around his dick. He had that strong square jaw, high cheekbones, and wide almond-shaped eyes from what he could tell from behind the mask. He couldn’t see the color, but he was betting they were green. His hair was short, and the way the lights hit, it looked like there were hints of auburn streaked throughout. No visible tattoos which was kind of unheard of in today’s world.
“Who the fuck is that?” Thane asked. He seriously needed to meet the new hire.
“You’re welcome.” Julian’s cocky purr caught him off guard. Thane looked over at his club manager, having no idea what Julian meant by that comment, but his gaze quickly darted back to the temptation in the shiny purple briefs.
