“Hello darlin,” he says with a soft southern drawl.

“Oh sugar, no need to get all Conway Twitty on me. I got a ride on the way,” I lie wanting to crawl under my car and never come out again.

He turns his head, “Stud, you got room at Honey’s?”

“For you, always,” the man on the red Harley with a silver goatee says as he shifts to get a phone from his back pocket. “Fuck man, no service. I’ll run up and get Jasper to get the tow truck out of the lot for me and we’ll get her to the compound for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll take her to Honey.”

“Perfect,” my new biker buddy tells him. Not perfect, is my thought. I don’t know who Honey is and I don’t know what having a private tow from a Hellion costs. Lord, this is not my night.

Stud looks to me, “Alright gorgeous, you leave the keys in the cup holder, I’ll be right back to get your ride. Country Boy will give you a business card, call Honey tomorrow afternoon and she can give you the eta on the return of your vehicle. Jasper, he’ll get your ride to Honey’s in the morning.”

These men just take charge without stopping to consult me. Normally, this would piss me right the fuck off. I am capable of calling for my own tow truck … granted that isn’t going to happen in this very dead zone. And really, how mad can I get when he starts the whole thing out with, alright gorgeous?

“That’s Stud, he’s got a family business, Honey’s Hot Rods.” Bearded hot biker explains.

I laugh trying to control my many mixed thoughts, “Ummm ‘preciate ya, but sugar, I think you need some glasses. Maybe you shouldn’t be driving at night. This car here, she’s not a hot rod. Honey bear, pooh bear, whoever, will become grumpy bear dealing with Little Red here.”

He laughs and I swear my damn insides clinch as a warmth runs through me.

“Honey, she is Stud’s daughter, she runs shit, and she has her ways. They’ll get her fixed for ya. She just specializes in hot rods, but she can literally fix anything. We don’t have a Pooh Bear.”

What am I supposed to say? I guess my car is going to Honey.

“Seein’ as there ain’t a lick of service out here, I have a feelin’ your ride ain’t comin’, Sweets. Hop on and I’ll take ya home,” he states calmly as Stud takes off apparently to the compound to sort my shit.

What the hell am I supposed to do? All I can think is you only live once.

Me ride on his motorcycle … all the smut books in the world have not prepared me for this moment.

Holy hell, what have I gotten myself into now?

FOUR

COUNTRY BOY

“Don’t skimp on things that separate you from the ground like tires, shoes, and a mattress.”

Her eyes are vivid with expression. It’s not fear, though, it’s excitement.

“Here Sweets, gotta protect your noggin’,” I state as I push down my kickstand and turn off my bike handing her my helmet.

Stud took off with Miles at his back to get the tow truck from Haywood’s Landing. Jasper usually keeps it at his place as he’s a Haywood’s Landing Hellion. The garage they run down here is larger than Honey’s Hot Rod shop back in Salemburg, but this is good for us right now. Sure, I can get Jasper to tow the car and work on it here in Haywood’s Landing, but when life gives me opportunities, I’m not about to miss them. Sending her car with Stud to Honey’s means I can see this beauty again. Stud’s more than qualified so I’m sure he’ll get her car towed into Honey’s first thing in the morning and get Jasper his rig back without missing a beat.

Haywood’s Landing isn’t far from here, but this spot on the highway is practically no man’s land. Raff is with me, remaining on his bike with his lights on for safety and for me to see.

“Don’t you need one?” she asks with genuine concern.

I laugh, “Sweets, I’ve ridden without a lid more than once. I’ll be fine. North Carolina says it’s law, but I’m a Hellion. To some, I am the law. But you, baby, are pretty and you’re smart, so let’s just make sure we protect all that.”

She nods studying the half-shell helmet. “Ummm,” she begins looking around, “Sugar, not sure I know what I’m doing here. Wanna help a girl out.”

Good God her smile even in the dark of night is fucking amazing. Climbing off my ride, I get in her space. Inhaling as I lift the helmet to her head, I take in the sweet smell of coconut once again. She tries to gather up her hair, and then it hits me.
