As he climbed into his SUV, he couldn’t keep from smiling. He sure hoped it wouldn’t take very many days to convince Rose to be his in every way because his entire body was humming at the suggestion of making love to her.
He also liked the fact that she’d said “make love” instead of “sex” because he most certainly intended to make long, slow, tender love to his sweet Little girl when they got to that stage of their relationship.
Adam was glad he hadn’t lost Rose on the drive. He’d led her to the bank first so she could drop off her deposit and then his home, keeping her in his rearview mirror the entire time.
Finally, he would get to be alone with her. Granted, they’d shared some intimate moments sort of alone in her shop the past few nights, but it wasn’t the same. Anyone could have walked up at any time. In fact, the night watchman had done exactly that.
After opening the garage, he pulled in, shut off the engine, and hopped down from his SUV.
Rose parked behind him in the driveway and opened her car door before he could reach her. She must have been distracted or flustered though because she turned to get out and got pulled up short, the seatbelt still wrapped across her chest.
“Oops.” She giggled as she twisted to unbuckle the belt before facing him.
He loved when she was discombobulated and he reached out to take her hand in his. The urge to kiss her again before shutting the door or leading her inside was strong, but he tamped it down. He could wait one more minute.
Something caught his eye in the passenger seat. “You brought Ruff?”
She turned around and looked back inside as if just now remembering her small stuffed friend. “Ruff wanted to spend some time with us. He gets lonely when he’s by himself. Would it be okay if he came inside?”
“Of course. We certainly can’t leave him out here. He’d be scared in the dark. Besides, he should get a tour of the house with you. If not, we’d have to repeat the tour another night.”
The broad smile Rose gave him made every moment of this banter worthwhile. She continued to stare at him for several seconds, her smile growing as if she enjoyed their exchange every bit as much as he did.
Finally, she twisted around, leaned into the car, and snatched both the beagle and her purse. She tucked the small dog under one arm so he was facing out and his line of sight wasn’t blocked. “We’re ready for the tour.”
Adam took her other hand in his and led her into the garage. Her small, soft fingers felt perfect in his. After pushing the button to shut the garage door, he led her into the kitchen and flipped on the lights.
“Tour starts with the kitchen,” he informed her. As he pointed around, he gave her unnecessary information. “Fridge, stove, oven, counter, island, table, chairs…”
She giggled. “Ruff thinks you’re silly.”
“Ruff is a smart dog.” He released her hand long enough to take her purse and set it on the corner of the counter before threading their fingers together this time and leading her deeper into the house.
“Your house is amazing, and so big,” she stated as she let her gaze wander all over this space. “Modern.”
“I spent months house hunting before I bought this place. It’s been several years, but I couldn’t decide if I wanted something old and quaint or new and modern. In the end, modern won out, mostly because this one had everything I wanted, and it was available.”
“What things did you want in a home?” she asked as he led her toward the front of the house.
“I wanted a place where my future Little girl could be happy, most importantly.”
She gasped and looked up at him. “You were thinking of your future Little?”
“Yep.” Instead of elaborating, Adam pointed out the rooms inside the front door. “Living room on this side.” He nodded toward the right. “And my office is over here.”
She stepped partway into the office. “Wow. You have a lot of books. It’s more like a library.”
“I love to read.”
“I do too.” She flashed him one of her sexy smiles.
He gave her hand a tug and led her deeper into the room. When he reached the sitting area around the fireplace, he stroked the back of the loveseat. “When I bought this couch, I pictured sitting in it with the perfect Little girl long into our old age. The fire blazing in front of us to keep us warm. My Little girl cradled in my lap or lying next to me with her head on my thigh, both of us reading.”
“I love that,” she murmured. “I can’t believe I’m here and you think I’m your Little girl.”
