Adam surprised her further when he lifted the beagle to his ear first and furrowed his brows as if he were listening to something the dog was telling him. When he lowered the stuffie, he glanced at its face and nodded. “I think that’s a great idea. How about if I hold you up so you can watch Sally or Betsy get stuffed. That way you’ll know what to expect and won’t be scared when it’s your turn.”

Rose giggled. It was impossible not to. She hoped to God Adam wasn’t making fun of her. She’d be mortified if that were the case. “I think he’s seen dozens of stuffies get their fluff today from the bin. If he’s telling you he’s scared, he’s pulling your leg.”

Adam glanced at the beagle and lifted the dog’s mouth to his ear again. “What’s that?” He paused for a moment as though listening to a response, nodding a few times. Finally, he lowered the dog and returned his attention to Rose. “He says he was situated facing the boring wall all day and missed out on the action. He’s been praying someone would at least lift him up to move him around a bit for hours so he could see what all the excitement was about.”

Rose was pretty sure her smile split her face in half. She was trembling. Adam was too good to be true. She jerked her gaze back to the beagle. She needed to focus. “I’m terribly sorry you were facing the wall. My apologies. I’ll pay more attention in the future to ensure all your friends are facing the room when I open each morning.”

Adam glanced at the bins. “Maybe I could help you get them arranged better after we finish these so you won’t be rushed in the morning tomorrow.”

Rose blinked at him. Was he serious? “You don’t have to do that.”

“It would be my pleasure. I hate disappointed stuffies.” He winked at her.

She stared at him for a few seconds before holding the elephant’s opening up to the fluff machine. While she concentrated on filling the stuffie, she tried hard not to think about Adam and the way he’d inched closer.

The way he was holding the beagle at just the right angle so the dog could watch. The way he smelled—a masculine scent that made her panties wet and her breasts feel heavy. The way he accidentally, or perhaps intentionally, brushed against her as her elbow stuck out and skimmed along his muscular forearm.

Okay, that last one might have been all her. She wasn’t sorry. She loved how his shirtsleeves were carefully rolled up almost to his elbows. Not haphazardly but precisely. He was also wearing fine gray dress pants and a tie, but he’d loosened the tie at some point during the day and unbuttoned the top button of his pale blue shirt.

As she finished filling the stuffie, she noticed his shoes were excellent quality and perfectly buffed. She wondered what he did for a living, but she wasn’t about to ask. That would be too personal, nosy. He was a customer.

Somehow she was going to have to finish this transaction and watch him walk away. Chances were she would never see him again. How many Stuff-Its could one man buy his niece?

She was certainly going to enjoy every moment she had with him though. She would always remember this odd interaction. It would undoubtedly feature in her dreams for weeks if not years. That’s how potent and magnetic Adam was.

Even if he were the most perfectest Daddy on the planet, she didn’t have time at this stage in her life to devote to any relationship, let alone an age-play dynamic. She was focused on her business. Nothing else. It was doing well, but it needed coddling and attention for a few more years before she could relax.

The marketing alone was a time suck. The only way to stay present in people’s minds was to run ads and keep up with her social media platforms. That side of the business wasn’t her favorite, but it had to be done.

With an internal sigh, Rose smiled broadly and handed the elephant to Adam, taking the beagle in exchange.

Chapter Two

Adam didn’t think he’d stopped grinning from the moment he stepped into this amazing Little girl’s space. He still felt bad for scaring the dickens out of her when he’d first approached, but he hoped she’d let him make it up to her. Preferably over dinner. Or maybe a trip to the park. Coffee and swings.

The vision kept morphing until he settled on picturing coffee for him, hot chocolate for her. They would sit on a bench and drink their beverages before he would toss their cups into the trashcan and guide her toward the swings.

The sun would be shining but it would be chilly outside. The swings he was visualizing were in the grassy area across from Little Cakes. As he watched Rose fill the beagle, he wondered if she’d ever been to Little Cakes and what flavor cupcake she preferred.
