Lorne leaned toward the dramatic dragon. “Does your Daddy know about the biker you dated?”

Kenzie’s groan said no.

“Then maybe stop messing with Boyd?” Lorne’s helpfulness got another groan from Kenzie and his head fell back against the booth. “Good idea. Quiet time might be best right now.”

Since Lorne seemed to have decided that meant Kenzie was going to behave, I turned back to Alick, who was trying not to giggle.

I really wished Alick was my type…he was sane.

“We explained what would happen and who would be there.” Alick started the story at just the right point for my stomach to stop churning. “He wasn’t too shocked or weirded out. He just didn’t know what to say.”

Alick gestured across the table toward the troublemakers, who were always at the center of every ridiculous story. “They were kind of overwhelming and pushy but he handled himself very well. No signs of safeword behavior even if he didn’t know what that was.”

“But he does because I know what books he’s been reading.” Kenzie was either trying to be helpful or was still pissed I’d been polite to Alick. “He also knows about limits lists and several different kinds of kinks. But he doesn’t like very traditional kind of Doms because he thought the wonderfully badass werewolf alpha was kind of mean.”

He meant someone from a book, right?

“Does that mean he doesn’t want to be growled at?” Lorne’s question was either brilliant or infuriating…I couldn’t decide which.

Kenzie shrugged, looking sincerely confused. “No, I think it was about the kneeling and the rules and the punishments in the book? Mostly I ask for age play and sweeter kinks, but the alpha was so hot and he did this thing—”

“If you finish that sentence in here, I’m calling your Daddy.”

Alick and Lorne giggled and nearly ducked under the table as Nancy called out a warning from the back of the restaurant. She had amazing hearing…so good I was starting to think she’d bugged our favorite table with some kind of device or maybe magic.

“I think we get the point.” I thought Kenzie looked like he was getting ready to stick his tongue out at the cranky woman but he held himself back, so I ignored it. “I’m also starting to think that this is not the right place for this conversation.”

It’d gotten completely out of hand.

Kenzie just blinked at me for a few seconds. “But half the town asked him about going to the playdate at the VFW Hall. I think that means we don’t have to hide what he likes.”

What they thought he liked.

“Well, he might not have connected the dots on those things yet.” Alick shrugged as Kenzie frowned at him. “I’m not saying you’re wrong, but the librarian was kind of startled that anyone would think he’s a little.”

Before I could ask some clarifying questions, Alick turned to me. “He wasn’t startled with us. I heard that from someone at the grocery store. With us, he was shy and seemed a bit confused about what he wanted, but he wasn’t scared.”

Forcing myself to take a breath and set my fork down before I bent it, I nodded. “Alright. I just don’t want him scared about other things when I have to go talk to him about council business.”

That was the most low-key way I could think of to say dragons and mages since I couldn’t remember who was around us.

How anyone lived in town for more than five minutes without realizing shit was weird was beyond me. But we somehow managed to have a good handful of humans who seemed to think everyone was just average human-level strange.

People were amazingly delusional sometimes.

“You could always just kiss him.” Kenzie’s unfortunately earnest suggestion had half the diner giggling. “I think he’d like that. He blushes when he hears your name and Daddy kissing me is always a good distraction.”

As several helpful people endorsed Kenzie’s suggestion, Lorne sat up and nodded. “Yes, that would be very romantic, and if he loves romance novels too, he’d love being swept off his feet.”

I wasn’t sure what those two were reading could be called romance but there were too many people around for me to discount the idea right off the bat…it took me several seconds.

“I can’t just kiss him.” How had they survived to be old enough to be called adults? “That’s not polite or a good idea.”

Randomly kissing the librarian before telling him there were dragons was most definitely a bad idea.

Alick chuckled as the other two pouted. “Well, I’m agreeing with you on the we don’t kiss people randomly part, but I think making it clear that you find him attractive might not be unwelcome.”

For fuck’s sake.

“I—” I had a very lengthy explanation planned out for why that was a terrible idea but Kenzie stopped me in my tracks.
