“Let’s go. Want to take a picture first?” he asked, pulling his phone from his pocket. “Our first time together at our new home and your new place.”

She nodded quickly. Harper wanted a picture to remember this moment—she wanted to remember all the moments. Smiling happily, she cuddled against Colt’s broad chest.

“Great picture,” he celebrated, turning the phone so she could see it as well.

Harper stared at the screen. She looked beautiful. How had he made her look like that? Watching as he forwarded the shot to her phone, Harper knew that Colt brought out the best in her. She was so lucky to have him.

CHAPTER 15

“Here, Angel. I got you this to help remind you to give yourself a break and that I love you.” He handed her a large gift bag with tissue blooming from the top.

“I didn’t get you anything.”

“I didn’t get a present for you to get something in return, Little girl. Daddies are supposed to reward their Little girls when they’re good.”

“Oh. Okay.” Harper had enjoyed being good. It had been almost a week since Colt had taken her to see the land. A new daycare had filled her dreams. Even an outbreak of the flu hadn’t brought her down from her high.

“Can I open it now?”

“I’d like that,” he encouraged with a smile.

Quickly, Harper ripped the tissue paper up and let it drift down to the floor as she peered down into the bag. Carefully, she scooped the stuffie up in her arms and hugged him, knowing instantly that he was indeed a boy.

“What is he?”

“I had to look at the tag, too. He’s a wombat. I think he’s quite handsome,” Colt suggested.

“A wombat. I’m going to research about him. I can’t wait to know all about him. Hmmm. You need a name.” Harper held the adorable plump stuffie away from her as she pondered that question.

“Wally? No, that’s not quite right.”

“You could think about it for a while. I think your new friend would be okay with waiting for you to choose,” Colt assured her.

“No, he knows.” Harper lifted the wombat to her ear and listened carefully. “Of course. That’s an amazing name.”

Cuddling the stuffie back against her, she announced, “Wombles.”

“That is a very cute name. I like it.” Grinning, he pulled her close to hug both of them. “I love you, Little girl.”

“And Wombles?”

“And, of course, Wombles.”

Colt guided Harper over to the couch and sat down to pull her onto his lap. Over the last few days, she was getting more comfortable about not risking crushing his thighs. Leaning against Colt’s broad chest, she explored Wombles’ cute face and fur. He was the softest.

“Angel, I don’t want to leave tomorrow.”

He sounded so sad. Harper threw her arms around his neck and hugged him close. “I’m sad, too. But it will be a quick trip, right?”

“As fast as I can make it. Probably a week. I’ll call you every day. I’ll make some changes to my schedule in the future to limit time away, but I’ll always have out-of-town obligations, Little girl.”

“It’s okay, Daddy. I’ll have a lot here to keep me busy until you get back.”

“Really? What are you doing?” he said with narrowed eyes.

“Just work and research floor plans for daycares. I’m sure there are a ton of ideas out there I haven’t thought about.”

“That’s a good idea. I’ll ask the architect to research best practices as well.”

“Thank you. I can’t wait until they build everything and we’re moved in.”

“Neither can I. I bought me a present, too,” he told her. “Go look in the night table on my side.”

“Really?” She jumped off his lap to run to the bedroom. Harper loved that he had a side of her bed reserved. She set Wombles on the bed to watch.

Opening the drawer, she saw a collection of condoms that they had diligently worked on eliminating. A vivid pink cylinder caught her eye. That was new. Picking it up, she felt her cheeks heat and knew they were turning as bright as the device in her hand. Slowly, she turned to see him standing in the doorway.

“You are only to play with that when Daddy’s with you or on the phone.”

She nodded without hesitation and started to put it back.

“Turn it on, Angel. The control is on the base.”

“Daddy, that’s embarrassing,” she pleaded for him to understand.

“No secrets between Daddy and his Little girl, remember?”

“I know,” she whispered.

Fumbling, she almost dropped the vibrator as she turned it around to find the button on the bottom. Harper pushed it once and felt the rumble begin. “Nice. I’ll just turn it off now.” She pushed the center again, expecting it to fall quiet in her grip. Instead, the vibration increased.

“Whoa!”

“Try again,” he directed.

As soon as she pressed it, Harper almost dropped it. The louder hum filled the air as it hit turbo drive. “No. That’s never happening.”
