“Please don’t go there,” Sutton said.
“I think a healthy sex life is a good thing,” Addie argued.
Sutton looked at her. “Do you want to hear the details about how much Brax likes Harlee’s new vibrator, then?”
Addie stared at Sutton for a moment before she looked at me. I gave her a wink. “He really likes it. A lot.”
“Oh my God. My brain just got that visual, and I am not okay!” Palmer said.
Before I could add any more detail to see how far I could push them, someone cleared their throat, and we all turned to see Kris Jensen standing there. I tried to school the shocked look on my face. After Brax had asked me to marry him out of the blue, with no ring and the most romantic proposal on the beach where he declared his everlasting love, we both knew we wanted to get married right away. My mind quickly drifted back to the memory of that night.
“Are your eyes closed?” Braxton asked as he held my hands and walked us onto the beach.
Laughing, I replied, “Yes! They are closed, and you have a blindfold on me, Brax! What are you doing?”
He stopped, and I could feel him move behind me. His warm breath hit my neck, causing a shiver to run across my body. “Keep them closed, okay?”
I nodded, “Okay.”
The feel of his hands moving up my arms made me draw in a deep breath. He removed the blindfold, and I realized I was holding my breath. I slowly exhaled as he said, “Open your eyes, princess.”
Opening them, I gasped at the sight before me. “Oh, Brax.”
A pathway lit up by candles led to an area that had a blanket with candles placed everywhere, giving the beach a serene and romantic feel. Rose petals were sprinkled on the blanket and the sand. A small table was set up with two glasses and a bottle of champagne.
Brax took my hand and led me down the path and to the blanket. I slowly shook my head as I took it all in. Lanterns filled with candles surrounded the blanket with smaller candles placed in between. It was beyond beautiful.
“This is so gorgeous,” I whispered as I looked around.
Then Brax dropped to one knee, and I gasped. Tears instantly started to roll down my cheeks and there was no stopping them. My heart pounded as he took my hand.
“Harlee, I don’t know why I’ve been so stupid these last few years. Why I’ve fought my feelings for you or why I pushed you away when I did. That’s not true. I was scared, because I’ve never in my life felt this way about anyone. I love you so much, Harlee, and I don’t want to waste another moment in this life without you by my side. I want to wake up every morning with you in my arms and drift to sleep with you curled up next to me. I want to watch your stomach grow big and round with our kids. I want to take you fishing as much as you’ll let me.”
I laughed and wiped a tear away.
“I want you, Harlee. Forever and for always. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”
He held up a box and opened it. I blinked a few times and then looked at him. “Um, I’m not sure if you’re aware that there is a bread tie in that box and not a ring.”
He smiled the biggest smile, and my heart skipped a beat. “I want you to pick out the ring you want, Harlee. But I wanted to ask you first, so please take this as a temporary ring.”
Laughing again, I dropped to my knees, cupped his face, and kissed him. When we broke apart our eyes met. “Yes. I want nothing more than to marry you, Brax.”
His face lit up, and I was struck by how handsome he was in the candlelight. “I want to get married at the bed and breakfast,” I said. “It seems fitting.”
He pulled me closer. “I couldn’t agree more. Now, I’m going to make love to you, Harlee”
My teeth dug into my lower lip as I nodded. Braxton gently laid me down on the blanket as we got lost in one another under the clear sky and the endless stars.
“Hey there, Kris!” Addie said, pulling me out of the memory.
“Kris!” I said as I stood and wrapped her up in a hug. “What a pleasure it is to see you!”
She let out a soft laugh. “It’s good to see you all. Sutton, Addie, congratulations on the upcoming babies.”
They both said thank you.
Turning her attention to Palmer, Kris added, “And congratulations, Palmer. I’m so happy to hear you’re going to be getting married. I haven’t met Dr. Bryan yet, but I’ve heard he’s a very nice man.”
