“Do you need it fitted?” he asked.

I shook my head, turning to look back at the ring again. “It’ll fit.”

Elizabeth

I nervously scanned the dresses in front of me. I could feel people staring at me, but Drake’s mom was with me, which helped a little. But I could still see the judgment in people’s eyes when they looked at me. A pregnant teenager buying a prom dress…like they expected my life to stop just because I was having a baby.

Drake’s mom had brought me dress shopping for prom. I’d never gone to a school dance and originally had no plans of going to this one either, but she wouldn’t hear a word of it. She wanted me to at least have this high school experience, regardless of my current predicament. So, here I was, seven months pregnant, trying to buy a stupid prom dress that wouldn’t make me look like a whale.

We’d waited until the last minute to purchase me one, considering the baby was growing at an alarming rate. I had stretch marks already. I’d hate to see how my body looked at nine months.

But with the way Drake acted, you’d think I was still the tiny little thing he’d fucked in the back of his truck. Only now, he had more to kiss and touch. And he made sure to do that every single opportunity he got. He couldn’t keep his hands off of me.

The man drove me wild. Even now, my cheeks were coloring as I remembered the night before when he took the time to trace every stretch mark with his tongue. A shiver raced down my spine at the memory.

Christ. I needed to get a grip.

“Ooh, look at this one,” Rita said, pulling a dress off the rack. I turned to look at her, my eyes widening at the dress she held. It was black and lacy with loose, long sleeves. It would hug my body, but the material was stretchy, which meant if this little one had another growth spurt before prom, I’d probably still be able to squeeze into it.

“It’s beautiful,” I breathed, truly meaning it. The black would slim me down while also providing a flattering look for my swollen belly.

Rita beamed. “Hurry. Let’s go try it on.”

I giggled, a little excited now as we headed to the dressing rooms. Once I was out of my clothes, Rita helped me into the dress and laced it up for me in the back. I turned to look at myself in the mirror, tears instantly filling my eyes. I rested my hand on my belly, drawing in a shaky breath.

I looked beautiful, something I’d never felt before.

“Oh, it’s perfect,” Rita sighed, smiling at me through the mirror like a proud mother.

I nodded in agreement. It really was beautiful.

And her son was going to have a hell of a time trying to keep his hands to himself when he saw me in this dress. The thought made me laugh and blush.

Oh, Drake.

Drake

Kaleb grunted and leaned against the back of the couch. His date decided to show up with her friends, so he was here with me, waiting on Liz to come down the stairs. I was pretty sure he was trying to be here for moral support since tonight, I was making my promise to Liz to always be hers, to always cherish and love her and take care of her and our baby.

I checked my watch, frowning when I saw we were already five minutes past the time I wanted to leave. Dad snorted from the couch, a glass of whiskey in his hand. I glanced over at him, wondering what he found so funny. “Son, one thing you better learn is that women will not be held to certain times. They’re ready only when they are good and ready—not when you want them to be.”

I snorted. I already knew that because of how often we waited on Mom. Normally, I remembered. But inside, I was a nervous wreck tonight.

Finally, the sound of our bedroom door opening upstairs hit my ears, and I moved to the bottom of the stairs. Kaleb wasn’t far behind me. Mom stepped out first and turned to look back into the bedroom. “Come on, hun. You look amazing.”

“Oh, God,” I heard Elizabeth whisper, and I laughed a little. She was always so nervous. It was cute.

Finally, she emerged from the room, and I fucking choked. Almost swallowed my goddamn tongue. Even Kaleb coughed from beside me, beating his chest. Any other time, I’d have scowled at him for his reaction to her, but I couldn’t take my eyes off my girl for even a split second.

Black lace hugged her body in a form-fitting dress, accenting her baby bump to perfection. She was fucking breathtaking. Stunning. Gorgeous. There weren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe the beauty slowly making her way down the stairs.
