Everyone.
“Hamish even said his grandson makes mating cakes and he thought they’d like one.” Everyone was very helpful and supportive, but I wasn’t sure why they were the center of attention when Boyd and Stefan were so cute.
And I had no idea why I should have an opinion on the flavor of their mating cake…that was just crazy.
Daddy Monroe groaned as Alick started to snicker.
They were both broken?
Did that mean neither one of them would help find my phone?
Alick was almost laughing as he whispered again. “I think you’re missing an important point.”
“That chocolate is the best flavor for a mating cake? Hamish thought I was being ridiculous and that it should be vanilla but that’s so plain.” Looking up at Daddy Monroe, I frowned. “Do you think vanilla is the best? Maybe you and your mate would like strawberry instead? Something less…less boring.”
Was that rude?
His fish out of water expression said it might not have been nice for some reason.
“I think they’ll let you have any flavor you want.” Alick’s giggly tone made it hard to figure out what he’d said.
“Huh?” I clearly needed more caffeine now that I could pay for it again. “Why?”
I liked getting my way but that was just ridiculous.
“I’m pretty sure Monroe and the grumpy mage are your mates.” It was my turn to look like a fish and it made Alick giggle. “I bet you want to climb all over both of them, right?”
“Yes, of course.” Duh. “But the rule is that I can’t date anyone who frowns at me because I’m not supposed to chase after straight men or ones that will get easily annoyed. I haven’t forgotten that rule.”
Kenzie said he’d spank me if I forgot again and that didn’t sound like fun at all. He wasn’t the type to give happy endings when he was frustrated.
That had Alick cocking his head and his giggles finally stopped. “Very good point.”
We both turned to Daddy Monroe, and luckily for us, he’d stopped pretending to be a fish. “I’m going to assume that rule came about because of some questionable dating choices in the past, so it’s probably an important one, but Carrick frowns at everyone. It’s his default expression and I don’t think he can help it.”
Alick nodded. “He is a mage.”
Okay, he had a point.
“What about you?” I couldn’t get distracted until I knew if the rule still applied or not.
Spankings should always come with happy endings.
“You kept ignoring me.” Daddy Monroe shrugged. “It’s hard to smile when the person you want to notice you never does.”
Okay, he had a point too.
“When I smile at strangers, they can get…prickly.” And I wasn’t going to say it, but large men with tattoos almost always fell into the prickly category.
For some reason, sparkly men made them uncomfortable.
Kenzie said it was because they were using tattoos to blend into their surroundings like a forest animal and I made them stand out too much.
Alick said it was because they were assholes.
I thought it was a combination of both or maybe an allergy to glitter.
But Daddy Monroe seemed nice so far…and he’d promised to help me find my phone…so maybe we could give him the benefit of the doubt?
I really needed my phone.
“I can understand that problem, but I promise that neither of us will get prickly no matter how sparkly you are.” He paused before holding up a finger. “Unless glitter is involved. I heard about the bakery.”
Shoot.
Some people were tattletales.
“I think that’s a good deal.” Alick was glancing back and forth between us with a big smile on his face. “At the very least, you’ll get your phone back and see if he’s telling the truth. Best case scenario, you get a date out of it, because if he’s your mate, he has to feed you.”
That was another good point.
“They both have to feed me, so does that mean two dates? Two meals? Are we taking turns or doing it together?” We had a lot to figure out before I knew how good of a deal I’d be getting.
Alick frowned. “Three dates would be a good starting point. One for Monroe. One for Carrick. One both together.”
I liked the way he thought.
Turning back to Daddy Monroe, I nodded. “I think that’s fair. I would like a pancake meal, a noodle meal, and a steak meal. I don’t care about the order or how fancy the date is, so we can go to your house or Carrick’s, or out in public if you really don’t mind sparkly men.”
Oh, almost forgot something.
“But the diner doesn’t count because dates are not spectator sports no matter what Kenzie says.” His logic was questionable sometimes. “I think that’s it.”
Daddy Monroe looked like he was going to laugh, but I didn’t know him well enough to guess how close his humor was to the surface. “I think those are reasonable plans and I will make sure Carrick understands them as well.”
