“So what you’re saying is that a friend of yours put those items in your car?”
I nod.
“Is there a reason you didn’t say that when we first asked you?” Greg questions.
“Because I want to cover my bases. You think I did this, and I know I didn’t, but this isn’t going away so I want to have legal support going forward.”
They have nothing, and they know it.
They can’t argue with me, and they don’t have enough to arrest me.
Not yet, anyway.
They let me go, and I get the hell out of there.
I need to end this before they find something strong enough to keep me.
I’m running out of time.
16 - Spike
“I’ll be in her room for the entire day in case that fucker decides to try and plant somethin’ in there while she’s in class,” I growl, standing in front of the guys, working out a plan to deal with this situation before it gets out of control.
The cops are already on her trail, and if they find one more thing, she’s going down.
I fucking will not let that happen.
“I’ll keep an eye on the car,” Muff nods.
“We’ll have eyes on the campus and surrounding area. We’ll find this fucker, and we’ll make sure he knows he’s messing with the wrong person. Whoever he is is goin’ to wish he didn’t fuck with Ciara,” Cade grunts.
“So we’re clear,” Jackson says with a nod, “we’ll have eyes on her, and Spike will stay with her at night.”
We all agree and then break up to head to our locations.
I’m riding Ciara to school this week, considering she no longer has a working car. That gives me the chance to make sure nobody is doing anything they shouldn’t, not to mention making sure no one is following her. I don’t know who this fucker is, but I know he’s dangerous, and if we don’t find him soon, I am worried about what he’ll do.
If this is related to Cheyenne, I’m going to fucking lose it.
We have already been through fucking enough when it comes to Cheyenne, and this is the last thing we need, more shit coming up to haunt Ciara when she’s finally getting her life back on track. She is slowly building her relationship with her family and things are starting to make sense again.
Fuck the past.
“I’m ready,” Ciara exhales, walking out to the bike with her backpack on.
She doesn’t want to go, and I can’t say I blame her. It’s been fucking rough, and she knows that with every passing day, the cops are working harder to find a reason to arrest her. Once they have her behind bars, we lose our position of power, and there is no fucking way I’m going to let that happen.
“Hey,” I say, stepping in front of her and cupping her face in my hand. “We’re goin’ to find this fucker, and we’re goin’ to bring him down. Nobody is goin’ to take you anywhere.”
She nods, but the doubt in her perfect yellow eyes tells me she’s running out of faith.
“I just wish I knew who it was ...”
“We’ll find him.”
Bringing my lips down to hers, I kiss her long and slow before pulling back. Addison and Serenity are both coming, bringing the kids and staying with Ciara’s parents. I’m certain that they are less than pleased with having so many people in their house, but they do like spending time with the kids so they weren’t going to say no.
Janine is staying behind with Ava and Skye.
It’s only two nights, but we don’t have many other options.
It has to be done.
Climbing onto my bike, I wait for Ciara to get on behind me and then we take off. The open road will do her good; it will let her clear her thoughts and take a minute to breathe. Besides, there is no fucking way I’m risking her driving anywhere alone after what that fucker did to her brakes. She could have been killed, and for that, I’ll gut the cunt.
The drive is long, but relaxing, and by the time we arrive just up the road from campus, I can feel that Ciara has softened a little behind me. She’s less tense, and her body feels warm against mine. Turning off the bike, I wait for her to climb off before following along.
“Do you think this is far enough away that he won’t see that you dropped me off?”
“Yeah, baby. We’re a good few blocks away.”
I can see on her face just how fucking scared she is.
“Hey,” I say, pulling her close to me. “Nobody is goin’ to do anything to you.”
“It’s easy to say that,” she whispers. “It’s not so easy to promise.”
“I fuckin’ promise that nobody is going to do anything to you. Do you hear me?”
She forces a smile, but I know she doesn’t believe me.
