Nathan let out a breath. “And what are brothers for, if not saving my sorry ass from my ex-wife’s wrath? Thank you, Shawn. I owe you, big time.”
“As long as you drop me off first,” Charlie said, a glint in his eye. “I have a date tonight.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow. “With a new guy, not Jim, right?”
Charlie rolled his eyes. “Not Jim. Never again, with Jim. This is a new guy, who apparently is a world-class competitive Sudoku solver.”
“Good. That’s what I like to hear,” Nathan said. “Someone new and he has a good head on his shoulders.”
“Hopefully that won’t be the only good head tonight,” Charlie said.
Nathan helped Charlie, Shawn, Tristan and Jack pack up their work van, and he checked in with Maddy for a few minutes before she hopped into the Fixer Brothers van. We watched from the front, waving as they headed off down the driveway, disappearing into the pine trees.
I breathed deep. “How are you doing, Nath—”
He cut me off with a kiss, and I gasped against his lips. He pushed me backwards against the thick trunk of a pine tree, my back pressing up against the cool wood. His hands grasped at my hips, squeezing me hard, like he’d just been let out of some cage.
“Goddamn,” I muttered against his lips, pulling him even closer to me so that the front of his body was on mine. “Somehow that was even more unexpected than anything else we’ve done.”
“I can’t think right now,” Nathan uttered, dragging his lips across mine, letting his tongue come out to tease my lower lip. “And we could talk it out, and you could ask me all about my sad, little life and my past…”
I hummed as his hands slid lower. He palmed against my hardening cock, making me feel all melty against the tree trunk.
“We definitely could talk it out,” I murmured, wrapping my arms around his hips and pulling in a breath of pine-scented air and the smell of Nathan, fresh and close.
He met my eyes. I’d never seen him look so sure of himself, so steadfastly focused on only me. “Or I could just kiss you,” he said in a low voice. “And I really, really wanted to kiss you.”
I caught his lips in another slow, sensual kiss, letting my tongue slide out against his. We’d kissed before in the heat of passion, but this was more deliberate, more intentional. Like Nathan really had needed this, after the day he’d had. Like kissing me was the antidote to every awful feeling floating inside him.
And I kissed him back, giving him exactly what he needed. He tasted like the bottle of blue Gatorade he’d chugged a few minutes ago, and while an electrolyte drink flavor had never gotten my cock hard before, it sure was now.
“So fucking hot,” I whispered against his skin as he dipped lower, burying his head in the crook of my neck.
“I just want you,” he said, sucking a kiss against my neck in between every few words. “I don’t want to think about anything else. I want to turn my brain off and be with you.”
Something kicked around in my chest. A fluttering, almost uneasy feeling, even as Nathan’s tongue on my skin was making me so hard I ached.
“Turn your brain off?” I murmured. “But I like your brain.”
“I like that I don’t have to think when I’m with you,” he said. “When my lips are wrapped around you. God, fuck, when yours are around me. I’m gone.”
There it was again. That wobbly, uncertain feeling in my chest.
“Hey,” I said softly, pushing Nathan back a bit so I could look in his eyes. “Cool it, cutie.”
He licked his lips, looking at me like I was a hot piece of meat. Which, usually, would have made me pounce on him even harder.
“Calling me cutie? How am I supposed to cool it?”
I gave him a half-smile. “Thought you hated my little nicknames?”
“You know I love every fucking one of them. Now can we stop talking?”
His body was pressed against mine again, and I could feel the stiff outline of his own erection pushing against my hip.
Tantalizing. So fucking tantalizing it was nearly irresistible. But the unsteady feeling behind my sternum wasn’t going away, and I’d learned long ago that I was never going to ignore my instincts again.
“Nathan,” I said firmly, using a bit of my muscle to push him away from me. He looked up at me, a little surprised.
“Sometimes I forget how strong you are. That was, like, ten percent of your strength, wasn’t it?”
I bit my lower lip. “Maybe even less.”
He sucked in air through his nose. “Can I have you? In bed? Sooner, rather than later?”
I chewed on my lip a little more, my eyes dancing over Nathan’s face. His offer wasn’t just tempting, it was agonizing.
