"Mr. Stewart," Prudence smiled artfully, and then released his arms. She slipped her hands up around his back and pulled him down to her.

His returned smile was gratifying, and he came down over her slowly, entering her deeper as he went.

Inch by inch she took him inside her. When she tensed he eased back, but a shake of her head warned him it wasn't necessary. And with a control he had doubted he possessed, he slid further in until he saw her bite at her lower lip.

"Pru?" he questioned gently.

"Please, Zac. Please, I want you so much." Her voice ached with that want, and without hesitation she pulled him roughly toward her.

He rushed into her then, unable to stop himself. She cried out and he stilled for a moment.

"Don't, please," she begged.

He needed no further encouragement. He moved gladly within her, and as his rhythm increased, so did her eager response. He had been right about her. She was no shriveling prude. She was a hot-blooded woman and all his.

Their tempo escalated to a wild cadence. He pulsated. She throbbed. They matched each other thrust for thrust, their frenzied pace urging, pushing, and finally erupting.

Zac captured her strangled cry with his mouth, wanting to savor the moment of her fulfillment. It tasted like nothing he had ever experienced, unearthly and magical.

He found himself unable to move off her, out of her. He wanted, actually needed, to remain locked within her. He felt one with her, so deeply cushioned in her female womb, like a newborn unwilling to give up the comfort and love surrounding him.

His concern for her overrode his nesting instincts, and he raised himself only slightly to look at her. Her sweet, yet fretful smile warned him she still felt vulnerable, uncertain, and her doubt caused him pain.

His words now were important, very important, and he chose them wisely and truthfully. "I feel as though I've just lost my virginity."

Her eyes widened and the corners of her mouth rose.

He kissed her. "I've never—ever—felt the way you've just made me feel."

"Zac." She touched her finger to his mouth, sending a shiver racing down his back. "You are telling me the truth?"

He laughed and wiggled his butt. "A man can't lie, honey. Can't you feel what your touch does to me?"

She giggled in relief.

"Don't laugh, you hussy. I've never gotten aroused so fast after just making love to a woman. I always needed time to recoup."

Prudence felt his pulsating swell, stimulating to say the least. She teasingly rotated her hips beneath him.

He groaned. "Are you trying to kill me or tempt me?"

"A little of both," she whispered.

"You learn quick, Mrs. Stewart."

"I adapt, Mr. Stewart."

He smiled and lowered his mouth to hers.

Prudence stood at the lone window watching the blackness of the night give way to the dawn of a new day. And a new day it was for her. She tugged the white wool shawl up over her bare shoulder. The fringe tickled her bottom and she sighed.

Whoever thought she'd stand naked before a window with only a knitted shawl as a cover? And that her husband would be sound asleep only a few feet away?

"Improper behavior, Prudence," she scolded with a giggle.

Her giggle faded and her expression grew serious. She had always thought she would marry a man equal to her in social status and that they would share a life like those around them, practical and boring. She would perform her wifely duties accordingly, give birth when expected, and retire to her own room, only to share her husband's bed when he extended an invitation.

But now, now she had tasted of a far different lifestyle… a far different husband. The type of husband that had haunted her dreams and wouldn't let go. He was everything she had ever wanted and more. Strong, yet tender. Handsome, but not self-centered. Domineering at times, yet caring and thoughtful. And best of all, he liked looking at her nakedness, actually admired her form. He even told her she was beautiful.

An emotional cloud descended over Prudence just as the sun's rising glow lit the horizon. There was no doubt in her mind now. There couldn't be after last night. She knew herself too well. She could never give herself to a man as she had given herself last night to Zac unless . . . she loved him.

Tears threatened her eyes and she fought them back. How could this happen? How could she fall so deeply in love with Zac Stewart?

"You're going to be hurt again, Prudence," her inner voice warned.

"I don't care," she answered. For once she intended to follow her heart. She would enjoy her husband while she could. When she left, she would take her memories with her to keep her warm in her old age.

"You look awfully cold, honey," Zac called from the bed.
