“It’s all right, Pet,” Salem said. “Alexei is coming back. You haven’t done anything wrong. He’s not leaving because of you but because he wants to take care of you. That’s all we want. To look after our girl.”
Right.
He was looking after her. And he wouldn’t betray her.
She wished that she could say the same about herself.
It took a lot to shake Alexei.
And he wouldn’t have thought that this would shake him up. Not after everything he’d seen and done in his life. But this was Tamsyn.
She had the ability to turn his world on its axis. Whatever she felt, he did as well.
So when she was in distress, he was too.
And she’d obviously been in distress.
Fuck.
It made him fucking furious to imagine what sort of stress she might have been through, what could have happened, to give her a nightmare like that.
One where she tried to fight them. Two grown men.
Was it because he’d gotten into bed with them? It was now five in the morning and he’d slept like the dead next to her for the past few hours.
Had she gotten a fright, though?
Shit. He shouldn’t have climbed into bed with them.
Idiot.
Going down to the kitchen, he grabbed an ice pack from the freezer. He could still feel his own head throbbing so hers had to be sore, too. Even if she had tried to lie about it.
He didn’t like that.
She should never lie to him. Ever.
Lies were something he hated. Maybe because he had to lie so much undercover.
And so he didn’t want any lies in his personal life.
He headed back up. Perhaps he should just take this into her and go. Perhaps she didn’t want him in there.
He took a deep breath and let it out. Something more was going on than her getting a fright because he was in bed with her. She hadn’t even really been fully awake when she’d started hitting them, scratching Salem, screaming and trying to get to him.
Roman must be asleep. He could sleep through anything.
Although how anyone could sleep through the noises she’d made, Alexei didn’t know . . .
Walking into the bedroom, he paused and just took in the sight in front of him.
Salem was naked and leaning back against the headboard with his legs spread while Tamsyn lay between them on her side, her head resting on his lower stomach and her mouth wrapped around his cock.
Wait. Was this what Salem had meant by sucking? As in sucking on him?
Holy shit.
But . . . it didn’t look sexual. Yeah, he was hard. Fuck, who wouldn’t be hard? Tamsyn’s mouth was amazing.
She was amazing and beautiful.
Sometimes he just had to look at her and he found himself getting hard.
This seemed more like comfort, though. The way she was lying still, but relaxed, her hand was wrapped loosely around the base of his cock but not moving.
She didn’t move her head, either. It stayed still and Salem was running his fingers through her hair.
“Pet, I don’t want you to move. Alexei is back and he has an ice pack for your forehead.”
She let out a small groan.
“He’s concerned about your head. You don’t have to move, but you do have to let him take care of you,” Salem told her sternly.
Alexei admitted that he wasn’t used to feeling unsure. In any situation. Generally, he decided on a course of action quickly and that’s what he did.
But right at this moment, uncertainty swum through him. Was this what was best for her? Did she really want him here? Should he leave?
“Alexei, put the ice pack on her forehead,” Salem commanded. “We don’t want her getting a bruise.”
Right. Shit.
What was he doing? He needed to get over his uncertainty and take care of their girl. Kneeling next to the bed, he placed the cold pack on her forehead. She let out a grunt of disapproval and tried to shy back away from him.
“Did I say you could move?” Salem said sternly.
She froze and then slid back into place. Alexei put the ice pack on her forehead.
“Roman didn’t wake up?” Salem asked.
“Nah, he must have been tired. Probably stayed up late working.”
“Right,” Salem said. “Are you going for a workout this morning?”
Why was he talking about such mundane shit? Shouldn’t they be talking about what had just happened?
But Salem sent him a look that told him he better answer.
“Ah, I guess. Maybe I will. I have to go to headquarters today for training.”
He fucking hated training. He couldn’t understand why Riordan had him training new agents rather than something useful.
“More training? That’s not right. Why would he assign you to training? You hate it and you’re no good at it. You just end up yelling at everyone.”
“Exactly what I said. I don’t fucking know what’s going on.” Alexei shrugged his shoulders as he glanced down at Tamsyn again.
