When we’ve both quieted down, I turn around to face him with my cheek on a pillow.

“Thank you for everything you said and did at the restaurant. Maybe I shouldn’t admit this, considering you lost your job and I’m very sorry about that, but everything you did, what you said about me being a queen, the way you put your arm across me at one point, like you were physically protecting me . . . Oh, God, Grayson, all of it was a huge turn-on for me.”

“It was a huge turn-on for me, too. And like I said before, don’t be sorry about my job. What happened tonight was meant to be. Even if I didn’t have my app idea, I wouldn’t want to keep working for the man who treated you like shit. No fucking way.”

I touch his chestnut hair. “You’re such a good person. You’ve got integrity. Kindness. A heart of gold. And I love the way you own your feelings, whatever they might be.”

“I don’t think I’m capable of hiding my feelings. Even when I try to be stoic and mysterious—and trust me, I’ve tried—I’m terrible at it.”

I giggle. “I can’t imagine you as ‘stoic and mysterious.’ You wouldn’t be you.”

We exchange a smile.

“Are you hungry?” I ask.

“I am. Do you want to go out?”

“No. I’d rather stay here with you, in this amazing, sexy, happy bubble, as long as humanly possible. Is that okay with you?”

“That’s fucking fantastic.”

We order some room service, which we’re told will take an hour to arrive. So, while we’re waiting for our food, we take a shower together, during which we kiss and touch and caress.

Once our food arrives, we sit at a little table and eat in fluffy white bathrobes and talk and laugh about the exciting drama that unfolded, so surprisingly, at the restaurant earlier. We laugh about the looks on everyone’s faces, from Andre’s, to his date’s, to the waiter and other staff members, and even other diners in the restaurant who clearly couldn’t believe the drama unfolding before their eyes.

We also talk about Grayson’s exciting pitch meeting tomorrow, with me giving him some inside information about Victoria, and eventually regaling him with some stories from college. That topic leads to Grayson telling me some funny stories about him and his best friend from college—a guy named Dimitri whom he met when both of them worked as tutors for student athletes.

“Do you get to see Dimitri very often these days?” I ask.

“Yeah, I went to his wedding in LA last month.”

“Oh, how wonderful. Do you like his wife?”

“I love her. She’s super cool and perfect for him.”

“That’s lovely.” I don’t mean to say the words that pop out of my mouth next, but out they come. “I’d love to meet Dimitri and his wife one day.”

Unbridled joy bursts across Grayson’s handsome face, seeing as how I’ve just confirmed I want to see him again after tonight.

“I’d love that,” he says, trying but failing to sound calm. “Maybe we could go down to LA for a weekend getaway, whenever Drew is at his father’s.”

“That sounds fun. Let’s look at our calendars and figure it out soon.”

Grayson visibly vibrates with excitement as he says, “Cool.” He’s trying, but failing, to play it cool. And I must admit I adore him even more for it.

After a bit more conversation, we head into the bathroom to brush our teeth and get ready for bed. Back in the bedroom, we crawl underneath the covers, hold each other close, and talk in the moonlight. Now that I’ve thrown the door wide open to a world for Grayson and me beyond these four walls, we begin talking excitedly about things we’d like to do together on potential dates.

I mention I’ve got tickets for an upcoming Mariners game, and Grayson says he’d love to join me. Grayson says he heard something about a traveling Van Gogh exhibit coming to Seattle and asks if I’d like to go with him. His invitation is particularly thoughtful, since I only mentioned briefly, way back during our initial conversation at Captain’s, that I was an art history major in college. Grayson remembering my college major is so sweet, in fact, after accepting his museum invitation, I find myself inviting him to join me on my weekly long hike with Daisy on Wednesday afternoon. Not surprisingly, Grayson leaps at the chance, saying he’d absolutely love to meet my beloved dog, after hearing so much about her.

We kiss and caress, as a feeling of euphoria I never want to end envelops us. But when I glance at the clock, and see the late hour, I gasp.

“You should get some sleep, Grayson! You’ve got a huge meeting in the morning that could literally change your life.”

Grayson scoffs. “I don’t think my body is going to be able to fall asleep any time soon, sweetheart.” He pulls up the sheet by way of explanation, and when I see his straining erection under there, I can’t help chuckling.
