“But why?” I demanded. “What’s the big deal? You still get hairy during the full moon, right?”

“Yes, but the beast is different from a regular Were’s wolf,” he explained. “It looks more human but it has less human thought. It’s all id—all desire and hunger and lust. For that reason, it’s really hard to control. A normal Were, when he changes into his wolf, still retains his mind. But when I change, my mind is clouded and I’m unable to think or reason in my Fur Form like other Weres can—I’m running on instinct.”

“So you’re afraid if we got married…er, mated, you would pass this genetic condition down to our son—if we had one?” I asked, raising my eyebrows at him.

He nodded.

“That’s part of why we can’t be together—that and the Unbreakable Law which states that family members—whether by blood or by brand—must not breed each other.”

“And the other Unbreakable Law says you shouldn’t breed in fur form, right?” I asked, deciding not to fight with him about it. At this point, I was just trying to understand.

Nick nodded.

“Exactly. And my condition—my beast—is part of the reason why. You see, when a Were breeds a female in his fur form, he has a greater chance of making a male heir who has a bigger, stronger wolf. A giant wolf like the Were Royals have—that’s probably why McCain is having the Alphas of his pack breed the single women of Wolverton in their Fur Forms.”

“But…?” I asked, waiting for the caveat because I knew there had to be one.

“But they can also end up with male heirs like me—heirs that are tied to a cursed wolf or a beast instead of a normal wolf,” Nick told me.

“Is that how you ended up with a, uh, cursed wolf?” I asked. “Your father wanted an heir with a bigger, stronger wolf?”

Nick nodded his head bitterly.

“My father didn’t want to do that but my grandfather forced him. He refused to give permission for my father and mother to be mated unless they swore to breed in Fur Form until she got pregnant. He wanted his line to have the biggest and strongest wolves—instead, well, here I am.” He shrugged.

“Don’t sell yourself short,” I said fiercely. “I don’t care that you don’t have a ‘normal’ wolf. I mean, what is ‘normal’ anyway? It’s just a societal construct that we all choose to live under to avoid social friction.”

Nick half-laughed.

“You better be careful, darlin’—you’re starting to sound like a lawyer. But the fact is, I don’t want to pass it on.”

“Is it really that bad? Being the beast?” I asked him.

“Well…no,” he admitted, frowning. “But it makes me an outcast from most packs—a lone wolf.”

“Well, are you absolutely guaranteed to pass it on?” I asked.

“No, but it’s a big risk to take.” Nick’s frown deepened.

“What if it’s a risk I want to take—with you?” I asked him. “I mean, sooner or later, we’re going to have to make a decision here, Nick. Either you’re going to have to breed me or someone else is.” I nodded down at my breasts, which were still sticky with the slowly flowing nectar. “This isn’t going away on its own this time, is it? I got lucky back when we were both teenagers because it was my first time going into heat. But now, well…it’s gone too far. Hasn’t it?”

“Yes, it has” he growled and ran a hand though his hair. “God! If only our fathers hadn’t decided to become blood brothers!”

“Forget them—they’re dead and gone,” I pointed out. “We can’t let their decisions rule our lives.”

“But—”

“I mean, you don’t have to get me pregnant, do you?” I asked. “Can’t we use some kind of…of birth control?”

I was trying to stay calm, but at the same time, the question was a serious one. I was beginning to feel empty inside and my breasts were beginning to ache as they filled with more nectar, even though Nick had just sucked it out a little while before. The Breeding Fever, which I had once scoffed at, was rapidly coming over me. I was going to need to be bred in the very near future, I admitted to myself, and I didn’t want anyone but Nick doing the breeding.

But he was shaking his head.

“I’m afraid the only way to cure Breeding Fever is to have your pussy pumped full of as much seed as a male Were can produce,” he told me.

“Like…like those girls last night?” I couldn’t help thinking of the way all of them had just submitted to the huge werewolves breeding them. Now I could understand a little more why they hadn’t tried to run. The need inside me to be bred was growing—if it got much worse, I was going to be in pain.

Nick nodded.

“Yes, like the girls last night.”
