Her first. I was going to be her first, and her only. I was so turned on just looking at her. Shelby had never shared this part of herself with anyone; it was all mine.

“Touch me,” she said, stepping closer to the bed. “Please.”

I shifted around in bed, belatedly realizing I was rock hard. And I knew whyI’d been dreaming about Shelby again.

As I’d fallen asleep in my Chicago hotel room last night, I’d imagined I was hunting a bear, hoping I’d dream about that. But instead, I’d fantasized about the woman I was trying my best not to think of in a sexual way.

She was ten weeks along now, and we texted daily but hadn’t been able to see much of each other since Thanksgiving due to our schedules. Shelby treated her working hours like she was in an office; she wouldn’t blow off work to hang out if I was free during the week. And she was working extra hours in the evenings to catch up on research for a case that had an earlier trial date than originally expected.

I’d met a woman in a bar last night after the game. Alyssa. She was hot, but I wasn’t feeling anything more than some light flirting. At some point, I’d grown fond of Shelby’s resistance to my charms. I’d never been with a woman like her, who challenged me and didn’t get stars in her eyes every time I spoke.

Though I’d always thought I liked women who fell into bed easily, the only woman on my mind was the one who wanted nothing to do with me between the sheets.

Fuck. How had I gotten myself into this mess?

I pushed the bedcovers aside and got to work. Morning wood was part of my daily life now, and my routine was fantasizing about Shelby riding my dick until she screamed with pleasure.

Closing my eyes, I pictured her letting loose, showing me a side of her no one had ever seen before. It didn’t take long for me to finish and grab a tissue from the bedside table to clean up with.

I showered, dressed, and packed my bag. The team had a flight to Las Vegas in a couple of hours, so I had enough time to drop my bag off at the front desk, get breakfast at the hotel restaurant, and board the bus we’d take to the airport on time.

When I sat down across from Dalton in the restaurant, he looked up at me and nodded.

“Sup?”

He had a black eye I didn’t remember seeing in the locker room after the game. I lowered my brows, trying to figure out if I’d missed something.

“Got into it with some drunk guys at a bar last night,” he said. “Chicago fans.”

“Shit, man. You okay?”

He scoffed. “Yeah, I’m fine. Those assholes called the cops but the cops asked to see the surveillance video from the bar and they ended up arrested the douchebag fans who called them. Me and Colby got a little banged up, but it was worth it.”

“Chicago fans are fucking nuts.”

He nodded in the direction of the breakfast bar. “Go get some of that sausage while they still have some. It’s really good.”

I considered a joke about him liking sausage, but nah. He’d had a rough night.

When I got back to the table, Colby was there, too, and he was giving me a funny look.

“What?” I asked.

“You got some pop-up on your phone about your baby being the size of an apricot. Didn’t know you had a uterus, bro.”

Shit. I’d subscribed to some shit about fetal development and since I’d input Shelby’s due date, they kept sending me updates about what was going on that week during her pregnancy.

“My sister’s pregnant,” I said, glad for the out. “I like to keep up with the development of the baby.”

Fiona was five months along, but my teammates didn’t know that.

“An apricot?” Dalton shook his head. “That’s a weird thing to compare it to.”

“Yeah, people eat apricots,” Colby said. “They should be more sensitive. Compare it to like, an egg or something.”

“People eat eggs too, dumbass,” I said.

“Oh, yeah. Sorry, long night.”

I looked closer at his face. He had a fat lip and a cut on his cheek.

“Heard you got your ass kicked last night,” I said.

With a single note of laughter, he touched his cheek near the cut. “Yeah. Like I didn’t get enough on the ice.”

The increase in fighting during games was why I’d gone back to the hotel instead of out with my teammates last night. These days I was beat after every game—literally. My shoulder still hadn’t healed all the way and I was sore all over.

“I mean, we kind of deserved it,” Colby said, grinning. “We were assholes to Petrov last night.”

Chicago’s team captain had broad enough shoulders to take the chirping, but his fans were apparently offended on his behalf.
