Unsure how long she’d take, I ambled into the kitchen and warmed up the coffee, knowing it would be morning before we came back, and I needed a jolt of caffeine.

Just as I poured a cup, she hurried out, her hair pulled back into a ponytail, with a black cap on her head. She was dressed in a black, long-sleeved shirt, and some kind of black exercise leggings that hugged every inch of her long legs. Shit. How was I supposed to concentrate on work when she looked like that?

“Something wrong?”

“You should put on a coat. Or a sweater. It’s probably cold.”

Her brows rose. “I’ll wear my leather jacket. It’s right by yours.”

I huffed out a breath. “Sure. Let’s go.” I grabbed her keys and stepped to the door.

“What about your coffee?”

“It’s fine.”

“I have a thermos I can put it in. Give me a second.” She pulled a gray bottle out of the cupboard and filled it with coffee. “You want it black?”

“Sure.” While she screwed on the lid, I unlocked the door and stepped into the connecting garage. “You mind if I drive?”

She shrugged. “Not at all.”

Soon, we were backing out of the garage. “We have to stop at the office for the camera equipment, but it shouldn’t take too long.”

“Yeah, that’s right. Did Razor sound mad?”

“Yes. He’d been waiting for a while.” I shook my head. “For some reason, I forgot all about our appointment.” I glanced her way and she flushed.

“Yeah. Me too.”

Twenty minutes later, we pulled into the parking garage and parked close to the elevators. My car and motorcycle were the only vehicles there, along with one other car I didn’t recognize.

Before I opened the car door, Serenity grabbed my arm. “Wait. Give me your hand.”

I held it out and she took it, closing her eyes and breathing slowly. A few seconds later, she shook her head. “I didn’t get anything, so we must be good to go.”

“Good. Let’s hurry.”

Using my pass-key, we made it to the twenty-sixth floor in short order. The equipment was in the security office in a large closet. I got three cameras and a controller, and locked everything back up.

Soon, we were on the road to Razor’s shop. After arriving, instead of parking in front of the shop, I pulled around to the back entrance. The main garage door was open with a lone light in the back by the desk.

I couldn’t see Razor anywhere, and tension flooded my shoulders. Where was he? From the shadows, Razor stepped to the door and waved at me to come in before disappearing back inside.

“One more time.” Serenity held out her hand and I took it. This time her eyes widened and she stared blankly ahead. Damn. She must be seeing something. She gasped and blinked several times before coming back to herself.

Her brows drew together, and her gaze turned toward the building. “Razor’s in trouble.” I moved to open the door, but she stopped me. “Wait! You can’t go in there. You’ll die.”

“What’s going on?”

“It’s a trap. We have to drive away. Now.”

“But what about Razor?”

She lowered her gaze. “It’s not good, no matter what we do.”

“If we leave, will he die?”

She glanced at me, her eyes wide, and nodded.

“Shit. There has to be another way.”

She closed her eyes. “This is what I saw. Razor’s sitting in his office. The guy… Johnny… is sitting by Razor and holding a gun. As soon as you walk inside, he shoots you and then kills Razor.”

“Okay. So he’s waiting for me. That means I can still draw him out. I have a plan. I’m going in.”

She grabbed my arm. “Nate.”

“I can’t leave Razor to die. I’ll draw Johnny out and shoot him first. He doesn’t know that I know he’s there. It will work.”

“Fine. Then I’m coming, too.” She pulled her gun from her purse and loaded it.

“Sen… I don’t know.”

“I do. You need my help. I’m here, and I’m coming with you.”

I let out a breath. “Okay. This is what we’ll do. I’ll go in through the garage, but I’ll stop just inside the door. I’ll drag a ladder or chair or something to make noise, and yell at Razor to come out and help me. That should draw Johnny out, and I’ll be ready for him.”

She nodded. “Okay. While you’re doing that, I’ll skirt around the car that’s on the platform and take cover behind it. I’ll be able to see everything from there. If anything goes wrong, I’ll have a clear shot.”

I raised a brow. Would she really shoot him? Her determined gaze settled it. “Fine. Let’s go.”

Leaving the keys in the ignition, I slipped out of the car, and we hurried to the entrance. Serenity quickly ducked the other way around the car and crouched behind it. I stepped further inside and found a ladder. Quickly taking it down from the wall, I pulled it across the floor.
