My mouth hangs as I admire his naked body. When I look up, he’s watching me, the usual arrogant smirk when I’m drooling over him absent, a soft, knowing smile in its place.

He knows.

My infatuation with him must be splayed across my face.

I swallow against the vulnerability. “Gosh, those feet of yours really are pretty.”

He slips beneath the covers again. “You drink all of that?”

“Yeah.”

“And how are you feeling?”

I hesitate, before admitting, “I’m not a hundred percent.”

He pauses, his eyes searching my face. “We don’t have to do this, Justine.”

“Yes, we do. I missed strippers and drag last night. Don’t take everything away from me.”

He blinks. “You are the horniest woman I have ever met.”

“Thank you. Now, are you going to put out?”

With a chuckle, he seizes me by my waist and drags me over to the center of the bed. Cradling one side of my face, he steers it into his, brushing his lips across my jaw before teasing my lips open.

I lift my head to catch his mouth, but he evades, bracketing my head with his elbows resting on my pillow. “I know what you like, but we’re taking it easy this time, got it?”

I make a frustrated sound that might pass for agreement.

He leans down. Our lips meet in a painstakingly slow and sensual kiss that is a hundred times more intense than the animalistic teeth- and tongue-clashing ones we usually find ourselves in during foreplay.

I realize something then.

There are clear, strong feelings woven into this kiss. Mine, I’m aware of. I’ve been trying my damnedest to ignore them, to keep them behind the wall that will protect my heart from more pain while I’m still healing.

But my feelings aren’t the only ones at play here. The way Garrett is kissing me …

It’s making my heart ache with need for him, and that’s not a place I want to visit yet.

My restlessness grows as an overwhelming swirl of conflicting emotions surges in me. My hands find their way to his hair, collecting fistfuls.

“Uh-huh.” He deftly pins my wrists above my head and, fitting his hips between my thighs, presses me down with his weight. Entwining his fingers within mine, he returns to kissing me with a slow desperation palpable with each stroke of his tongue. Between us, his hard length presses against my core, a promise that I’m growing eager to collect.

I need to anchor us back into the “this is just sex” column before it’s too late.

I roll my hips, sliding my warm center across his velvety soft skin.

He groans, but he doesn’t make a move for the condom waiting on the nightstand. “I know what you’re trying to do,” he whispers, his lips never leaving mine.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Another hip roll brings him closer to an accidental slip.

His hands tighten around mine. He shifts his focus to my jaw, dragging his tongue along the edge, down toward my neck. “It won’t work. You can wait. Besides, I thought this position didn’t do it for you.”

I hiss as his teeth nip at my throat, feeling the aftershock of it skitter across my nipples. But he soothes it immediately, lapping against my skin with the same tantalizing skill he uses on other parts of my body.

And then his lips are back on mine, worshipping them again.

I use my feet and pinned hands as leverage, and shifting the angle of my hips to catch the tip of him, I push down.

Garrett inhales sharply as he slides into me. “I wasn’t expecting you to do that.”

“You should know better than to tease me.” I leave him seated halfway inside me before shifting my hips to slide him out.

But he bears down on me, pushing himself in. All the way. “Fuck.” His body tenses. “I can’t remember the last time I felt this.” With another curse, he bows his head. “You feel incredible.” His flexed arms tremble.

This one moment feels more intimate than any other we’ve had yet. And at this moment, I want it.

I nuzzle my nose against his ear. “I have an IUD. And I got tested after Bill.”

“I’m clean too.” He lifts his head and our gazes touch, and an unspoken agreement passes between us.

I wrap my legs around his hips, opening myself up more, the idea of him coming inside me stirring a new, deeper ache of anticipation.

With a shaky sigh, Garrett presses his forehead against mine, our eyes mere inches away from each other, too close to focus, and yet I can’t look away from the intensity.

I feel like a live wire, waiting to spark.

He begins moving, my body stretching around him. But unlike other times, where he’s met my demands with wild, pummeling thrusts that leave his lungs heaving and his breathing ragged from exertion by the end, this time he keeps a steady, easy pace, his hips rolling with ease.
