Marcus stilled.

And so did I. I wasn’t expecting fireworks, but I hadn’t expected him to turn the whole thing into a mannequin challenge either.

“M-Marcus?”

And then he was shoving me away, his fingers pulling out of my pussy as I fell on the bed.

He whirled to face me as he got to his feet. “Fuck.”

His face was white. “Fuck.”

And then he was walking away.

Thirteen

For a long time, I simply stayed on the bed, naked and on my knees, my arms around myself. The cold I felt came from the inside, and there was no way to ward it off. I tried to wait for him. I tried to tell myself that everything would be fine, tried to tell myself this was just another misunderstanding that could eventually sort itself out.

All I had to do was wait.

I just had to wait.

Just wait, I told myself. It was something I now knew I was good at. Because now I also knew that all this time – I had been waiting.

For almost a decade, all I had done was wait for Marcus to come back.

So I just needed to do the same thing, I thought feverishly, and everything would be okay.

Marcus himself had promised me.

So wait.

Just wait.

I probably could have waited for an eternity, and I wouldn’t have minded.

If not for those cries.

When the strange, terrifying buzzing in my mind stopped—-

That was when I heard it.

Tiny soft cries—-

And they terrified me.

How those little cries terrified me because I knew – even without knowing where they came from – oh, I knew. Deep inside me, I knew those tiny soft cries had the power to destroy me.

Forcing my limbs to move, I slipped my arms into a silk robe and tied its sash around me before making my way out of the room.

The hallways were dark, and I had to fumble my way down the stairs.

The tiny soft cries continued.

I followed the sound until I realized they were coming from the basement. The door had been left ajar, and it silently swung open at one nudge of my fingers.

My bare beet silently pounded the cemented steps as I descended. The entire basement turned out to be an entire hallway of rooms, and at the very end a sliver of light streaked out from under the door.

The cries came from the same place, and they weren’t so tiny or soft now.

Terror clawed at my body.

I knew the only thing left to do was to walk towards the room and open the door so I could confront my fears.

For better or for worse.

But I couldn’t.

I just couldn’t.

And so I waited. I wished. I hoped. I prayed.

Until the words were no longer coherent, and my thoughts were a complete mess—-

Until all I could do was just breathe.

When the door finally opened, a laughing, naked girl came out—-

A cry escaped me.

The girl turned towards me in shock, and then her eyes sharpened into slits before she lifted her head with a toss of her hair.

She sauntered towards me.

And I found myself backing away.

The girl laughed, and shame devoured me.

“Someone like you can never satisfy him.”

Behind her, Marcus came out of the room, and he jerked when our eyes met.

He was fully clothed. But it didn’t matter. I knew that face. I GODDAMN knew that face—-

And I knew he had just come.

Marcus started walking towards us, his eyes never leaving me as he said curtly, “Get out.”

The girl bowed. “Yes, Master.” But her eyes smirked at me before leaving, and I had never felt so low in my life.

That girl was – what – a decade younger than me?

My head snapped towards Marcus, and I didn’t even have the strength to scream at him. I didn’t even know if I could be mad. How could I be mad when I just didn’t—-

I just didn’t...

“Marcus.” His name came out a broken whisper. It was the only thing I could say, and I knew – when he stiffened and his face hardened – I knew he knew what was it I really wanted to say.

Why?

But Marcus only gazed at me with dark eyes that were no longer anything I recognized.

“I don’t understand,” I choked out.

His lips twisted. “You were never meant to.”

And that was all he said.

That was all he GODDAMN said before walking past me—-

I fell to my knees.

“I don’t understand.”

But Marcus never looked back.

Part Two

Prologue I

The man was tall, black-haired, and sensually beautiful. He was completely naked, and so was the woman in front of him. Chains suspended from the ceiling kept her arms bound over her head, and with every lash of the flogger against her ass, she would shudder and moan.

“Please.”

The man didn’t say a word, his handsome face clenched hard as he flogged her, over and over. And as the moans became louder, the man started stroking himself furiously.
