We pull up outside a modest apartment complex where another black SUV idles, but it’s not one of my own. “Someone’s already beat us to the punch, you think?” My senses are on high alert. Morales dealt with a lot of fuckers on my organization’s behalf, and apparently others I’m not aware of. I should have taken my time killing him.
“Perhaps. We’ll see.” My security, Ivan, in the front seat steps out first, opening the door for Grigor who waits and watches before I step out. Our second SUV has just parked behind us that will take our newest employee while I take Daniella with me.
“We won’t be long. Run the tags on these.”
“Leonid has started, Boss.”
“Good.”
We enter the building and meet with the goon in a cheap suit who thinks he’s tough. He’s full of girth, meaty, but I could drop him quickly and so could Grigor. “Sorry, but this building is currently unavailable at the moment.”
“Get out of my way. Now. I won’t repeat myself.” He pulls out a gun, and Ivan takes him out with a quick shot before he knows what happened to him. The suppressor helps, but the shot is still loud. I hope they didn’t hear us.
Grigor and I take the steps quickly yet quietly, but as we do, there is a large man kicking down the door to the apartment we’re going to. My woman screams, and Grigor wastes no time taking out the trash. It should have been me to end his life, but it is his job to go ahead of me.
The boy stands in front of her as a shield; it’s loving and sweet, but it will do him no good because she’s mine. Nothing and no one will get in the way of me taking her. I’ve decided that I will have her, and my plans involve something so much more than initially discussed. I don’t have the words to even express the pure visceral reaction she has on me. My dick jolts violently, beating against my zipper.
“Take him with you,” I grunt, unable to say more.
Dani will be mine, and I’m not leaving here without her. I step over the body of the fuck who came for mine, wishing again to be the one who shot him, so I do, putting another in his skull. She gasps and flinches backward, nearly falling, but I don’t stop stalking toward her. She’ll repay her father’s debts on her knees, on her back, on every fucking surface in our home for the rest of our fucking days. A life for a life.
Chapter Two
Daniella
I run my hands through my long black hair, grateful that it’s full so I don’t damage it too much. “You haven’t heard from Dad, have you?” I ask my little brother as he moves around the small apartment anxiously. I already know the answer because it’s not like we’re allowed to leave for anything other than school, and since I’m homeschooled and Tomas is on spring break, we’ve both been home.
We don’t have cell phones because my father was afraid that we’d be tracked, so unlike most kids my age, technology is a foreign thing to me. Granted, I do get to use the computer for my schooling, but my father has blocked everything but the school-regulated sites. My life has been in danger since I developed breasts, and I learned the hard way so I behave.
Still, it’s been two days, and nothing. He’d been summoned by his boss and then suddenly disappeared. I wanted to call the cops, but my dad didn’t quite work on the right side of the law, so I couldn’t just do that. It wasn’t like I missed him so much, but it left us in a very precarious situation. I’m a day away from eighteen, with no job and with vultures breathing down my neck. Men my father has dealt with for years lurk like hungry animals, circling their prey, waiting to strike at the most opportune time. Now, it’s more than obvious that we’re in a vulnerable state.
My father was the only barrier between me and them. He protected me from their intentions, and now I’m afraid they’ll come for me. There’s no one to protect me from these lowlifes. The only one who could hold them at bay would be my father’s boss, but he’s more than likely the reason my father is missing and wouldn’t want to help me. He’s the king in this area; everyone fears him, the ladies love him, but he’s colder than the dead of winter. The man only cares about his money and his dogs. My life would mean nothing to him, so he’d no sooner help me than he’d throw me to the wolves himself.
I’ve only seen him once from a distance, and the man shouldn’t be allowed to be that sexy when he’s so cold and evil. It’s sick and pathetic that, even now when I think he might’ve had a hand in my father’s disappearance, I can’t shake the pang of hunger that shot straight between my legs when I saw him. I’d seen his brutality from the window aimed at the man I cared about as he’d punched my father in the face for something, and I still wanted him to put his hands all over me. I think I need mental help, which is the last thing I’ll ever get.
