No way in hell was I going to let tonight be the only time I got fucked by him. I’d done some wild shit, but nothing had ever come close to igniting me, body and soul, as being with Papa Bear.

“So does the asshole with the cabin work with you?”

“Don’t call him that,” Grant snarled.

“Then what should I call him. He didn’t tell me his name.”

“If he didn’t tell you, then you don’t need to know.”

“Are you always this cheerful and forthcoming?”

“Yes. Are you always this talkative?”

“Yes.”

“This is going to be a lot of fun.”

I shrugged. “You could let me go.”

Grant shook his head. “No matter how annoying or stupid you are, I’m not sentencing you to death.”

“Those assholes won’t find me out here.”

“Annoying, stupid, and talkative. We get all the best out here.”

“Damn, they sent me to the safehouse for losers.”

Grant laughed. “Don’t say that to TJ.”

“Who’s TJ?”

We were parking next to the ranch house before he could answer. A huge man who looked like he could bench press me while gutting all my enemies at once stepped out of the house when we pulled up. “Is this the asshole?”

“Sure is,” Grant said.

He tapped one of his headphones. He spoke into a two-way radio. “Yeah, he’s secure.”

Grant gestured toward the scary man. “That’s TJ.”

I didn’t think I’d be saying much of anything to him. I’d seen his type before. “I guess you’re going to get him to guard me.”

Grant laughed. “I doubt my brother will approve.”

“Your brother?”

“Yes, TJ and my brother are together, so watch what you say.”

“Because he doesn’t want to work at the safehouse where they send the hopeless cases?”

“No, because he was one of them.”

Oh shit. “He’s here to be guarded?”

“Not anymore. But he was.”

“And you—”

“Don’t underestimate me.”

“Papa Bear said the same thing.”

“Who?”

“The guy with the cabin.”

Grant started laughing so hard I thought he might pass out.

“TJ, do you know what he’s calling Blade?”

I grinned. “So that’s his name.”

Grant scowled at me for a moment, then rolled his eyes. Obviously, Blade’s name wasn’t really a secret.

“This must be good.” TJ said.

“Papa Bear.”

TJ started laughing almost as hard as Grant. “Are you going to tell Rogue?”

“Of course I’m going to tell Rogue.”

Obviously, Blade wasn’t the only one around here who went by a nickname. “Who’s Rogue?”

Grant pointed toward the house. “Go on inside. You’ll get introduced later.”

I glanced over at TJ. He just scowled at me and pointed toward the door.

I was not looking forward to weeks—or however the hell long I was supposed to be stuck here—of everyone ordering me around. Maybe I could—

“Don’t even think about trying to run again,” Grant said. How had he known what I was thinking? “This can be a pleasant stay, or I can stick you in a cell in the basement and give you only what you need to survive.”

“I don’t think Lucien would—”

“Lucien told me to do it.”

“Goddammit.”

“Did you find Carlo?” A younger man stuck his head out the door. He smiled when he saw me. “I guess you did.” The fact that he was wearing an apron told me he must be Grant’s chef boyfriend. Was he really with grumpy-ass Grant? He looked like the type of guy who was always happy.

“Yeah, we got him,” Grant called.

He waved to me. “I’m Jacob. I do all the cooking here. Are you hungry?”

“Starving.” I hadn’t eaten since the few cookies I’d had while wandering around in the woods.

“Come on in. I’ll heat up some of what we had for dinner.”

“Thank you.” I glanced back at Grant as I walked up the porch steps. “At least someone here has manners.”

“You ran off. Maybe your introduction would have been nicer if you had let your keepers bring you here.”

I supposed he had a point. Running away from your safehouse probably wasn’t the best etiquette. I wasn’t going to apologize, though. I’d done what I needed to do.

What you wanted to do.

I needed to not be trapped here.

You wouldn’t mind being trapped with Papa Bear.

That was true. If only I could stay in his cabin instead of the ranch house with Grumpy and Killer. Maybe the rest of the men here were more like Jacob, but somehow I doubted it. One of them was dating Killer after all. Not that he was hard to look at. I might not mind a round with him myself. But dating him? No way.

“Is there anything you can’t or don’t eat?” Jacob asked once we were all in the kitchen.

Grant spoke before I could answer. “He’ll eat whatever we give him. It’s not like we have to pamper him. X said—”

X. Now that was a name that scared me. I’d only heard rumors about him. How well did these men know him? I was sure Grant was former military, and they said X was too. Had they served together? Shit. If so, I might really be in over my head. I heard when X made men disappear, no one ever spoke their names again.
