“You’d be damn good at it,” Caleb says to his son.

“You have to say that. You’re my dad.”

“I don’t have to say shit,” Caleb says, in that brusque way he has.

“Uncle Caleb says it like it is,” Liam reminds us. “If you were an asshole, he’d call you an asshole.”

That makes us all smirk.

“I think it’s time to break out some beer and celebrate,” Isaac announces.

“Or wine,” Dom says with a wink. “We have both. For the record, I’m proud of you, Will.”

“Don’t get mushy,” Finn says, cringing. “And bring on the beer.”

“Not for you,” Matt tells his son, clapping him on the shoulder. “You’re still a minor.”

“It was worth a try.”

“Why would you hesitate to take that awesome job?” Liam asks Drew. We’re sitting on the far side of the pool, eating the barbecue that Uncle Will had catered. Uncle Matt and Isaac round out the five of us.

There are Montgomery men all over this place.

And that’s what we all are, no matter the last name.

“I have to think of my team,” Drew says, picking at the potato salad with a fork on his plate. “I’m two years in on this contract, and I’ve just established a rapport with my guys. A routine.”

“College players rotate in and out often,” Isaac says.

“True, but we have a few guys who won’t go pro but who are excellent college players and leaders for the others. I like my job a lot. But working for a pro team has always been my goal, and the fact that I’m being offered a job to lead a defensive line before I’m thirty? That’s just wild.”

“Not to mention more money,” Liam says. “You have the chops for it.”

“The press is going to slaughter me,” Drew says with a sigh. “Because Will and I are related. He can blow that off all he wants, but it’s going to be a pain in the ass.”

“Our family has dealt with the press forever,” Matt points out. “And I say let them talk. Who the fuck cares? You’ll do the job well, and after a while, they won’t have anything to bitch about.”

“It’ll blow over,” I add.

“That’s coming from the guy who avoids the press like the plague,” Drew says with a laugh.

“I didn’t say it would be fun.”

“I’ll probably take it if Will accepts the job he’s offered and presents me with an official offer. I would be stupid as hell to pass on it.”

“You’ll do what’s right for you,” Matt says simply, then turns to me. “And speaking of staying out of the spotlight, you’re sure flirting with it a lot lately.”

“How so?”

“We all have eyes,” Isaac replies. “We saw you with Gray’s sister at Leo’s party last week. You always swore you’d stay away from anyone famous, and here you are, giving the gooey eyes to a music star.”

“I was not giving her gooey eyes.”

“Oh, you totally were,” Liam confirms with a grin. “It was so sweet.”

He makes kissy noises, and I throw an empty rib bone at him, making him laugh.

I don’t know if Liam will ever grow up.

“She’s beautiful,” Matt continues, ignoring Liam. “Legs for days.”

“I think her legs are her brand,” Drew adds. “She’s always wearing those short denim shorts in her videos and stuff. Short skirts on stage. I think that’s her thing.”

She does have killer legs. And when they’re wrapped around my waist, there’s nothing better in the fucking world.

But I don’t tell them that.

“She’s my friend,” I say simply and reach for the beer I grabbed with my food and take a sip.

“With benefits?” Isaac asks with a knowing grin.

I just look steadily at the older man but don’t answer.

“That’s a yes,” Liam says, but he doesn’t whoop and holler or make it a big deal. “Good for you, man. I like her, all jokes aside.”

“She’s not my girlfriend or anything,” I reply quietly. “We’re friends who have a good time together. That’s it.”

“Why?” Matt asks.

“Because you said it yourself. She’s famous. End of story.”

“For fuck’s sake,” Isaac mutters, shaking his head. “Youth is wasted on idiots like you.”

“I love you, too.”

Isaac smirks and reaches over to ruffle my hair, the way he’s done since I was a toddler.

“You’re a smart idiot,” he clarifies. “Too smart sometimes.”

“You’re both consenting adults,” Matt points out with a shrug of his shoulder. “If sex is all you want, that’s fine. Nothing wrong with that.”

Matt’s always been very blunt and open when it comes to sex, especially with us boys. All our dads are, but I think of Matt as a college professor when it comes to sex. I suspect that he has some secrets that he doesn’t share with the rest of the family.

But I learned a long time ago not to ask him questions he doesn’t want to answer. He’s a freaking vault.

“Do we have dessert?” Drew wonders, effectively changing the subject.
