“I’ve always loved these. Never got too many as a kid.”

I cock an eyebrow. “Never got too many PB and Js, as a kid? What kind of weird childhood did you have?”

She stares at me blankly, like I had just accused her of murder. “Parents didn’t think it was good enough for me. Said I needed healthier foods than that.”

“Oh. Those sort of health nuts.”

“Always thought it was a bit silly. And this one in particular is really good,” she says. “It’s made with bread from Hannah’s bakery.”

I nod her way. “Hell, yeah, good bread is important to any sandwich. Even PB and Js.”

“What about you?”

“Ham and cheese on rye. Grocery store rye, sadly. Maybe I should get some bread from Hannah’s and see what I can do with it.”

“A lot. I’d recommend it. She sells primarily sweet stuff, but just the regular bread is really good too.”

The fire crackles, and the two of us enjoy the serenity of the evening as night falls. We both look up into the sky. The stars are bright here, given how far we are from the city, or hell, even the town of Evergreen Valley.

Lavender sighs. “Makes you feel really small. Really puts you in your place.”

“I’ve always known that,” I ponder aloud. “I see how big the forests are. And even with how much I’ve explored them, I know there’s still more I’ve never seen. And these forests are not even one percent of all the forests in the world. Not counting the parts that aren’t covered with trees.”

“I mean, I’ve always kind of known that too. I’m just one person. How many is the world up to? Eight billion? Yet my parents keep going on about how important I am. How I’m going to be able to do so much, be able to change the world. Like, I’m just one girl. How am I changing the world with so much going on?”

I throw my arm around her shoulder and hold her close. “They want you to feel like you can make a difference. So they tell you to shoot for the stars, and then I guess if you miss, you’ll end up doing something or other, even if it really is minor in the grand scheme of things.”

“My parents expect more out of me than most, though. Like, the standards they have for me are absolutely insane.”

“Oh. Those types of parents.” I went to school with a lot of kids with those kinds of parents. That tended to create neurotic messes of people. I’m happy Lavender seems to be keeping it together better than they did.

The cool night air spreads over us as we sit next to the fire. It’s such a precious moment.

“You do what you can. You try to improve the lives of those around you; you try to be an asset to your community,” I say, as I stare up into the twinkling stars of the night sky. “If that’s not enough for them, then I’d start to question their value as parents.”

“I’m already doing that all the time.” She scoots closer to me, her knees bent with her arms around them, and my arms around her. “I kind of yearn for that more down-to-earth connection. Like you have with your family. And the people of Evergreen Valley.”

“Nothing saying you can’t have that too.”

“I’m not from here. I grew up elsewhere.”

“Yeah, so? People move all the time. If you’re willing to be a part of the community and treat everyone as friends and family, they’ll soon start to treat you the same way.”

“I don’t know if I can do that. I feel so different.”

“And I have no idea what you’re talking about. No one thought you were from out of town when they saw you working at Hannah's bakery stall. At most, they probably wondered where Hannah was.”

“I guess it might be all in my head.”

She has her own anxieties. So do I. Everyone does, and they’re usually all different.

It doesn’t change how I feel about her. She’s precious and beautiful, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about a girl before.

I caress her cheek, before taking hold of her chin, and guiding it to mine. She looks back at me with those passionate brown eyes.

There’s no way I can resist kissing her. Embracing her. Her womanliness overwhelms me, and my tongue entwines with hers. She melts into me, and the heat between us flares up. The blanket over her shoulders slides off her, and I see her entire beautiful, naked form in front of me again.

She’s so eager and giving. A smile comes across her face as her hand goes down to my cock, taking hold of it, and it comes to life, fully, in her hands. Not like it took much. I’d been at half-mast just sitting next to her and enjoying her company.
