Panic floods through me. Bring my mom? Hell no! I need to get out of this situation stat.

“Oh. Well, I’ll pass the invitation along to Lily,” I mutter. “I’m sure she’ll be excited.” Oh shit, oh shit. We are officially up shit creek. What do I do now? But before I can say anything, Logan nods. The corner of his mouth is curved up, like he’s amused.

“Great,” he says in a smooth tone. “I look forward to seeing you both tonight then. Now, how about these blueberry pancakes? Delicious, right? I had my chef perfect the recipe last year using baking powder instead of baking soda. It makes a world of difference, don’t you think?”

Logan continues speaking, and I’m mute like a complete idiot, watching those perfect lips move as he talks. Our benefactor is outrageously handsome, and my chest rises and falls as I look into those sparkling blue eyes. I take in his strong jaw line, the dark stubble along his cheeks, and the thick black lashes that surround the startling blue of his eyes. I imagine what it would be like to run my hands through his ebony hair as he kisses me, pressing my body into his tall, athletic frame. What would it feel like to feel my soft breasts crush against the hardness of his pecs?

But then reality comes crashing back because holy cow. I’m not even supposed to be living at Logan Daniels’ house … and somehow, I think the billionaire already knows my secret.

“Sweetheart, I thought you were going for a swim,” my mom says in a surprised voice as I walk through the door of the room we share. Lily’s dressed in a plush bathrobe, applying nail polish at the vanity table, looking perfect as usual. She’s always been beautiful, and even at forty, it seems the light is still undimmed. My mother has long legs, a svelte figure and shiny black hair. She looks like a model, and could pass for a woman half her age.

Meanwhile, I’m nothing like that. I have crazy curves, with huge double D’s and a big ass. My belly is soft and my thighs jiggle when I walk. My hair is brown and curly, and I have plain mud-colored eyes. I often wondered if maybe I was secretly adopted. After all, how could someone like Lily give birth to someone like me? I suppose anti-miracles can happen, if such a thing exists.

“I was going for a swim, but plans have changed,” I reply, slightly out of breath from hurrying back here after my unexpected breakfast with Logan. I’m still flustered by what just happened, and my mom can tell.

“What’s wrong?” Lily asks, studying me. To be honest, we don’t know each other that well because it was my dad who raised me. But we’re close enough, and Lily can clearly tell something is up.

“Well, I met him this morning,” I say.

“Him?” my mom echoes, raising a perfectly curved black eyebrow.

“You know. Him,” I impress, looking at her with a meaningful stare. I see the color drain out of her face as she realizes what I’m telling her. “I didn’t intend to, I promise,” I explain in a rushed voice. “I was just in the breakfast room getting something to eat, and then I was going to go for a swim, like we agreed. And suddenly he was just… there.” Mom simply waits for me to continue. “I was struggling with the juicer, and Logan Daniels came over to help. Then he introduced himself.”

“Really,” she says.

“Yes!” I protest. “You know what Ellie said. Logan Daniels doesn’t get out of bed until noon at the earliest. I thought I’d be long gone before he made an appearance.”

Lily pinches the bridge of her nose, shutting her eyes as if a migraine has just struck.

“And how did you introduce yourself to Mr. Daniels?”

I look down at the carpet, chastened.

“I told him I was visiting my friend, like we agreed,” I explain in a small voice. I purposely leave out the part where Logan didn’t seem to know who she was, in case that might hurt her feelings.

“And did he suspect anything?” Lily presses.

I shake my head slowly.

“I don’t think so. I hope not.”

“Okay,” shrugs Mom. “That doesn’t sound so bad, then.” Satisfied that our cover hasn’t been blown, she goes back to painting her nails. “You know you’re not supposed to be here, Jasmine. This is serious stuff and you need to stay out of sight going forwards.”

I bite my lip, working my toe into the carpet.

“I know, but there’s more,” I manage in a small voice. Like a hawk, Mom looks back up at me, her brow furrowed. She can sense that something’s wrong, and I take a deep breath. “So Mr. Daniels noticed I was new, and invited me to a movie night he’s having tonight. A private movie night. He wants us both to go, actually.” I can tell Mom has stopped breathing.
