My shoulders slump and she offers me a sympathetic smile. “In other news the system is supposed to change soon, and you’ll have a sticker to add to your window so it’s always there.”

“That’s good.” Not helpful now but still good. “Can I get the number for the company who towed it?”

“Sure.” She jots it down on a sticky note and hands it over to me.

“Thanks.”

“Yep, anytime.” She gives me another smile before I turn on my heels and head out the door. When I reach the street, I dial the number for the tow company and let the person know that I will be on my way in just a few minutes. Then I call my job to let Katy know that I’m going to be a little late. Thankfully, my boss is understanding about the whole thing and just tells me to take my time.

An hour and one hundred and fifty dollars later, I park in the lot of the bank and grab my bag from the passenger seat, then head inside. I don’t even bother going to drop off my lunch in the fridge before I head straight to my office. Like Mondays, Fridays at the bank are always busy with everyone trying to get all their banking done before we close for the weekend and me being late even just thirty minutes after the bank opened is too much time.

“Did you get your car sorted?” Katy, who is the bank manager, asks, walking into my office as soon as I take a seat behind my desk.

“I did, thanks for covering for me.” I flip on my computer.

“No problem, also I got an email from Carly this morning and she won’t be in today or next week. Her father passed away and so she is going to Florida to be with her family,” she says, and my hands freeze on my bag. I might not have been best friends with Carly, but I know she mentioned that her dad died when she was in high school and that her mom passed away a few years ago, and she never mentioned her being remarried.

Clearing my throat, I shake my head. “I’ll call her when I get a break.”

“And I know you normally take care of your own calendar, but we’ve had a potential new client contact us and he asked if he could set up a meeting with you today since he’s going to be going out of town next week.”

“Okay, do you know what time he’s supposed to be in?” I ask trying not to get annoyed that someone who probably has a whole lot of money was able to get an appointment today when I know for a fact that my schedule for the day was already full.

She glances at her watch then looks at me. “It should be anytime now.”

“Great.” I plaster a smile on my face.

“I’ll bring your client in when he arrives.”

Okay, so whoever it is has a lot—like a ton—of money because normally Katy doesn’t bother herself with meeting any new potential clients.

“Thanks.” I give her another smile then watch her walk out of my office before I dig through my bag for my cell phone. Once I have it in hand, I type out a quick text to Carly, asking if she is okay and if she needs anything. For all I know she has a stepdad or father figure she didn’t mention and is grieving that loss and I just can’t imagine what she might be going through if that is the case.

As I place my phone and purse in the bottom drawer of my desk, there is a tap on my open office door, and I look up. It takes about five whole seconds for me to register who is standing next to Katy, and when I do, I urge myself not to pass out.

I tried to convince myself that I would be okay if I ever saw Clay again after that kiss but it’s obvious that I’m not, not even a little. My heart pounds, my palms start to sweat and my nipples pebble in response to his nearness and the memory of how good it felt having his mouth on me.

“Willow, this is Mr. Raven.” Katy introduces, placing her hand on Clay’s bicep while looking up at him like he’s a world-famous movie star.

“Thank you, Katy.” Clay tucks one hand into the front pocket of his suit pants and smiles at her. “Miss Mayson and I know each other.”

“Oh.” Katy looks at me.

“It’s a small world.” I stand up without pushing my chair back, which means I hit both my thighs on the underside of my desk then fall back into my chair.

“Are you okay?” Clay asks.

I wave off his concern. “Yep, fine just fine.”

“Are you sure?” Katy asks as I rub the tops of my thighs.
