“Please, Renzo. Please, my husband.” I’m so close. My breath comes ragged and in gasps. “Don’t make me wait.”

“I’d never do something like that to my wife.” He leans down and licks my nipple then bites it. “Come for me, baby.” His hand moves faster, my hips grind harder. “Come for me, Maddie.”

I gasp, and when he bites me one more time, I finally shatter for him. The orgasm tears into me, and once I’m left trying to put myself back together on the mattress, he finishes undressing.

His cock’s so hard it twitches. A bead of precum glistens on the tip. He kneels in front of me and pulls me close, teasing me slow, gliding his thick head up and down through my folds.

“I’m still sensitive,” I say, shuddering with delight. “Go easy.”

“Don’t worry. I have plans for you.”

“That’s ominous.”

“Good plans. You’ll enjoy it.”

“So long as they involve me coming again tonight.” I sit up on my elbow and reach for him. He meets me halfway, lips pressing to mine. We kiss for a low, glorious, beautiful moment, before he pushes me back down and pins my hands above my head.

“Turns out that’s exactly what I want.” His tip presses against me. I whimper, mouth opening in expectation. “My lovely wife.”

He fills me, my back arches, and I’m in heaven.

We spend half the night like that. He teases me, fucks me, makes me come. I lose count of how many times. I’m sore by the end of it, completely spent. I’d guess he came inside of me three or four times, which is very impressive.

I’m sleepy. I look at him through heavy-lidded eyes as he holds me in his arms. It’s pitch-black and we finished showering off a few minutes ago. The clock says it’s past three in the morning.

“You should get some rest,” he says, kissing my neck. He’s strangely tender in these moments for a mafia guy.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Go ahead.”

“What does your family do? Aside from the real estate investments.”

He laughs gently, breathing in the smell of my hair. I shiver, smiling. I like how much he seems to enjoy me. “We do a lot of things. For years, we ran the biggest sports book in the state, but legal gambling hurt that business. Now our organization runs guns and drugs through the port. Some we sell here, the rest we move up north.”

“Oh,” I say, chewing my lip. I had a feeling it would be something like that, but I feel strangely disappointed.

“We’re a crime organization, baby.” His hand moves up to cup my breast.

“Easy. I don’t think I can go again.”

“You’re right. I should stop.” But he doesn’t. He twists my nipple softly. “Do you have a moral problem with drugs and guns?”

“I don’t know. Drugs are one thing. I’ve always been pro-legalized marijuana. But the other stuff?”

“The stuff I deal in.”

“That’s harder, you know?”

“If we didn’t sell it, the Aslanov Bratva would. If we didn’t import it, the Rinaldo Famiglia or the Lynch Family would.”

“That means it’s okay because someone else would?”

He only shrugs.

I’m tired and on the edge of drifting. I feel my legs twitch slightly. I don’t want to be married to a man that sells drugs, but at least he isn’t trying to hide it. And he doesn’t sound ashamed, which I respect.

“We take care of our own,” he whispers in my ear. “And now you’re mine.”

“You keep saying that. I’m starting to think you like it.”

“I do like it.”

“Why? I’m just some girl, remember? Just a womb.”

“Much more than a womb. You’re a lovely pussy too.”

I nudge him with my elbow. “Careful. If I were more awake, I’d be mad about that.”

“Only teasing.” He’s quiet for a moment, breathing deep. When he speaks, his voice is thick. “I don’t open up often, but I like talking to you. I think you understand me. You’re hiding something too.”

“Yeah?” I don’t like how seen that makes me feel. “You think I’ve got some deep, dark secret?”

“I know that you do, and when you’re ready, you’ll tell me about it.”

He sounds so confident.

And he’s completely right.

But the thought of telling him about what happened—what I did—makes me want to cry. I tried all that before. Therapists, social workers, my parents, my friends. None of it helped. Everyone kept saying it wasn’t my fault.

But they were wrong, and I don’t want to hear those words come out of his mouth. Not Renzo. He has to understand, but I’m afraid he won’t.

Because if he can’t really see me, then I don’t think anyone ever will.

Chapter 22

Renzo

Ilet Maddie sleep in. Today’s an important day and I need her well rested. I pushed her too hard last night, although it was our wedding night in my defense. Something came over me while watching her sit with my little sister and chat like they were old friends. It was a strange feeling, like I was watching my future play out. Maddie slotted into my world last night, and everything clicked into place.
