But none of that mattered because she and I would never work.

Katsia’s fat tits rise and fall as she sucks in deep breaths. There’s no denying Katsia is a sex beast. Not only that, but she’s as fucked up as I am in bed. No one wants to cross her, and it has nothing to do with murder.

I grip the back collar of my shirt, tossing it into the corner of the room after wiping the blood from my hands. It’s humid as fuck in this room from the steam of the bath. Now it smells like a murder spa with the heady scent of metal fusing with soap.

“I need to go make a call.” My hand is in my pocket to fish out my phone, and I haven’t even taken two steps toward the doors when they swing open.

Halen’s body fills the space, with the rest of the Kings behind her.

“Well… why am I not surprised by this?” Her green eyes slither to Katsia. Fuck the guy bleeding out behind the desk, nah, Halen only cares who I’ve had my cock inside while she hasn’t been here.

This. This is why we could never work because we’d tear each other apart—and possibly our families too. We put the EKC first. Above all. There has never been a King with a King—that we know of. Halen and I would be the first.

Beginning to think there’s a reason for that.

My hands are on Priest and Vaden, dragging them back out the door by their arms. “I don’t have time for drama, Halen.”

“It’s not drama, War!” she yells at my back, but I ignore her. The doors close her into the office, but River and Stella stay behind.

“For a minute, and I mean just a fucking minute, War…” River glares, her high-heeled foot tapping against the floor. “Can you not be a complete fucking asshole to her? And I get that you have this whole twisted history with that crazed bitch in there, but Halen is—”

“Um, no? I won’t—" River steps up to me, her chest to my stomach.

My head shifts to the side as laughter bubbles out from between my lips. Before she gets comfortable, I pin her with the kind of coldness that I’ve never used on her before. “—baby sis. This is cute, but back the fuck up. Think about it, Riv.” I take a menacing step into her space, but she holds her own. “If you think that girl doesn’t need to be loved by toxicity and poison, then you may not know her at all. She may not be a coldhearted killer like the rest of us, but she has her own demons, and they all have to do with the way she needs to be loved and fucked. So back. The fuck. Up.”

River’s anger dissipates the more she blinks, her eyes finally widening with understanding. She knows I’m right. They all do. Regardless of how I love Halen, the fact is that I do. The only way I know how to love, just so happens to be the only way she craves it.

The girl is fucking mine. Period.

My attention is back on Priest as if that didn’t just happen. We don’t have time for the theatrics of who’s on whose dick. Someone just shot up our island. “I don’t know anything right now. Katsia came to find me—”

Priest clears his throat.

I pause.

When he doesn’t say anything further, my shoulder rests against the wall and I arch a brow. “Got something to add?” I should have known he would. Considering we haven’t exactly had the time to talk about the party.

His pupils swallow the color of his eyes. “You’re my family, War. The only people I ever gave a fuck about are in this room, our families included. At any other time, sure—” The glow of his teeth is blinding against his tanned skin. “—I’d threaten that if you continue to fuck with my sister, I’d break your face. But we both know that what you said was true. And anyway, I know she can handle herself, but I will say this. Don’t be using that bitch to get to her. Katsia and all the fucking ones before her have a long line of fucking with the Malum men. Now, continue with what the fuck you were saying.”

I don’t bother to address any of his shit. He knows about Katsia already. I don’t need to repeat myself.

I continue. “There were bodies everywhere. As I’m sure you saw. Katsia had one held captive in her office, waiting for me to interrogate.”

His eyes don’t move from mine. “I don’t suppose you raged out and killed him, did you?”

My mouth opens a little. “Not exactly.”

“Gentlemen?” Vaden’s question comes out from gritted teeth. The beef between the two families tracks back further than him, but he’s a loyal fucker.
