Priest unlocks the door to the cube and the hostages stumble their naked bodies out, with tears rolling down their cheeks. Metal collars are latched around their necks, with chains linked to the back, where Priest grips onto with one hand.

The older woman with sandy blonde hair wails, “What do you want?”

The young girl with tattoos gives nothing, until Priest’s heavy combat boot slams against the backs of her knees and she falls to the ground. The boy that’s with them screams, launching at Priest with pathetic juvenility, when he’s met with a fist straight in face.

Crack! The sound of cartilage splitting merges with Jelly Roll.

The boy crawls over the ground with blood spilling from his face, as smoke rings drift out from between my lips. I have to calm the fuck down or it’ll be over too fast.

The distinct squeaking of rubber wheels becomes louder the closer Vaden gets, as he drags the wooden table that Callihan is strapped down to.

Callihan’s arms are stretched wide, his feet too, and his naked body glows against the moonlight as he hangs upside down from the tilt of the plank.

His wife screams again, her body flying forward.

I roll my eyes and flick my cigarette to the ground, stomping on it with my boot.

Vaden regards me with a silent question, and I jerk my head to the patch of grass right in front of the patio, allowing everyone a clear view. “Face him this way first—” I point to where Priest is. “This won’t take long.”

Vaden turns over his shoulder, looking right at Danny Dale. Time stops a moment, before he opens his mouth. “Moses. Care to play with Priest?”

Moses lifts his chin, rolling the sleeves of his shirt up. Danny has three sons and two daughters. Eloise is his eldest daughter and was born the same year as us, but he has a younger one too. Same age as Stella. Juliette Dale doesn’t see the light of day, from what we hear. No one has even seen the girl. Danny lost one daughter, so when he finally got another after breeding a line of boys, he locked her ass up.

Moses grabs his father’s hand and lifts it to his lips, before taking the steps down while placing a single kiss on the crucifix that hangs off his neck.

He tucks it beneath his suit, nodding at Vaden in silent appreciation. For tonight, we’re not enemies.

For tonight only.

He crosses the small distance to Priest, going straight for the wife.

“No!” Callihan howls loudly, tugging on the metal clamps around his wrists. “Please. Just not—not her!”

I circle the table he hangs from, tracing every line of his skeletal body. “I just have to know.” I tap my head with the sharp side of my knife. “Did you really think that you could get away with what you did?”

His angry eyes narrow. He really is an ugly motherfucker.

His refusal to answer has Hector emerging out of the shadows. Even in this light, he looks like a bad motherfucker. Inked from head to toe, Hector Hayes is not the man you want beef with. And this idiot did it more than once. Finishing in the worst way you ever could.

“Answer.” He remains passive, but I know he’s anything but.

“We did.” Callihan releases a laugh, and my teeth crack from how hard my jaw snaps tight. “For years. You can’t take that away.” His bushy brows curve inward when he smirks. “What we did to her? She has to live with for years.”

I nod slowly, lifting my shoulders in a shrug. “Point well made.” The blood coursing through my veins is all I can hear for a brief moment.

His next words stop me, and my eyes fly straight to him. “You think she doesn’t hate you, War? She will hate that you weren’t the one who saved her. She would whisper it in my ear every night I’d take her pussy. For fourteen days. She whispered your name as I drove my cock through her ripe cunt, listening to her prayers that you would come. You didn’t. You failed her more than anyone else—” My knife leaves my hand and with a loud thud, the sharp end pins the base of his cock to the wooden board.

His pain rips through his mouth with a scream. That’s nothing. Barely a warm-up.

I blink past the empty ache that his words left behind. Fuck. “Moses, you have four minutes to make her hurt.”

“I set the timer!” Stella calls from behind us with a giggle.

Priest bares his teeth around a smirk. “Four minutes?”

“Wait!” Callihan groans. “I didn’t kill her! I didn’t kill any of your worthless children! Even though I’m sure she killed one of mine…” We know she killed one of yours. Fucker.

Vaden clucks his tongue at him, circling the board. “Wrong thing to say.”
