I place my hand on the small of her back as we walk to my car. “You’re perfect.”
“Whoa, new wheels?”
I open the door to my Corvette and glance at her thick ass as she slides in. Bending, I help to buckle her in.
“You know I can get that myself.”
“I enjoy making sure you’re safe.”
“My hero,” she whispers, voice breathier than usual.
Winter takes another bite of her pepperoni pizza. “Still the best pizza in town.”
I love watching her eat. Always have. Usually, women barely eat around me. They order a salad and push it mindlessly around their plate. I don’t know why they think fueling their bodies with sustenance is a turn-off. For me, food means comfort and love, and watching Winter eat is satisfying.
“You want more?” I ask, noticing the last slice is gone.
“Oops, looks like I ate most of that pie.” She dabs the corners of her mouth with a white paper napkin. “So, what kind of business do you have at the university?”
“My company is taking over campus security,” I say, omitting that I offered the cheapest deal to the university to ensure I got the job. I don’t like that Winter is at school without real protection. I have a few private bodyguards keeping tabs on her, but I enjoy knowing that my guys will be in charge of keeping the campus safe.
“You don’t need to watch over me. I’m not a little girl anymore.”
My eyes trail down her body. “I noticed.”
She leans over, pushing her big tits together, making them appear even larger. “What exactly did you notice?”
I clear my throat and avert my eyes.
“See something you like?”
Busted.
“I always enjoy seeing you,” I say, my gaze meeting hers with a playful glint, attempting to inject a bit of teasing into our usual conversation.
“And I like being seen by you. So, how long are you in town for?” she asks, changing the subject and pouring ice-cold water on my rock-hard cock.
“A few days,” I lie. “Once the guys are in place and the paperwork is done, I’ll be heading back to L.A.”
“I enjoy having you around.”
“Come on. I’ll take you home.”
CHAPTER 2
Winter
Garett Nichols was my father’s friend. They grew up together. I didn’t know about Garett until my father died in a car accident. My mother abandoned me when I was two, never to return, so I’ve been completely alone since. My dad was my only family, and suddenly, I had no one. That’s what I thought until Garett showed up at my family home when I was eighteen.
I was initially standoffish toward Garett, not understanding how a man I’d never met before was now my guardian. At eighteen, I was confident I could handle anything life threw my way. But the more time I spent with him, the more I learned about him and the more I cared deeply for him.
My feelings couldn’t be called innocent. Seeing Garett ignited a deep, uncontrollable longing within me, but no matter how hard I tried to bridge the gap, he remained distant. I didn’t know what the big deal was. I was an adult. He was an adult. Sure, there was a large age gap of twenty-plus years, but age is just a number, isn’t it? Everyone expected me to date boys my age, but they seemed immature next to Garett, who was a real man.
I tried kissing him when I was nineteen, but he pushed me away, saying he couldn’t do that to my father. I always thought that was the stupidest thing he could say when rejecting me. My father probably would’ve wanted me to be with Garett, a man he knew would treat me right. Isn’t that what all fathers want? For their little girls to be happy with a kind partner who’ll put them first?
Garett wants me. I can tell by the way his eyes linger a little too long on my legs or how he diverts his eyes quickly if he chances a glance at my chest. Most of all, it’s the way he looks at me with a shy smile that tilts the corners of his mouth slightly.
The heat in Garett’s car is on full blast as we pull up in front of my apartment. I desperately want him to lean over and touch me, kiss me, tell me how he can’t live without me and wants me right here, right now.
A grin spreads across Garett’s face as he leans back in his seat, creating a wide gap between us. I’m not sure when I’ll give up my stupid fantasies and realize that this man will never give me what I long for.
“How long did you say you’re in town for?” I ask, trying to prolong the night as much as possible. Am I pathetic? This is pathetic, isn’t it? I’ve got it so bad for this man that I’ll take crumbs just to be near him.
