She was scared and trying not to show it. There were pill bottles no doubt belonging to the Claiborne family, tossed across the bed as well. She was high on something, but that was none of my concern. “I asked you what you were doing here going through Sian’s stuff?”
“Sian! What a stupid fucking name.” Her eyes were glazed and she just stopped speaking mid-sentence. “By the way, I’m glad that you’re here.”
“Oh yeah, and why is that?” She was pitiful. I can’t believe I’d seen this as a worthy opponent.
In the end I hadn’t even touched her and already she had come to this.
“I have something to tell you.” She trailed her finger along the mattress and smiled up at me in what I’m guessing she thought was seductively.
“You’re going to be a father.” What the fuck?
“I know, but how do you know that?” What the fuck? The doctor couldn’t have told her.
“You know? I didn’t tell you.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
Now I stood away from the doorjamb where I’d been leaning.
“I’m pregnant. And it’s yours.” As soon as she said the words Sian walked into the room.
I didn’t have time to take her to task for being where she wasn’t supposed to be. Knowing her distrusting ass, I figured I needed to deal with this shit first.
“Bitch are you out of your mind? If it were mine you should’ve had it long before now.”
“It happened after, that time in the hospital…” Her eyes flicked to Sian and there was no mistaking the venom there.
“That again? You do know there are ways to prove that it’s not mine, granted you are with child.” I was this close to saying fuck it and just breaking her neck, but this chick was so not worth it.
“Wait, what did you mean earlier when you said you knew?” Her eyes went to Sian again and I saw realization dawn. She looked like she’d seen death before that calculating look entered her eyes again.
“Well, looks like you’re going to be a daddy twice. I wonder if we’ll have a girl or boy.” She rubbed her stomach and I didn’t even look back at Sian to see how she was taking this shit. If she told me she believed this twit again I’d shoot myself in the fucking nuts.
“You are one delusional bitch. First, the only woman I’ve ever trusted enough to have unprotected sex with is my wife. And last, the last time I went anywhere near your infected ass was months before I kicked your ass out of my life. So you see, this little game you’re playing isn’t gonna work.”
She opened her mouth to speak. I guess she’s one of those people that don’t know when to leave well enough alone. I’d planned to leave her ass to the cops, to wash my hands of her once and for all. But this was too damn much.
“If you open your mouth one more time, to imply to my wife that I fucked you after she and I were engaged I will drop your ass off a cliff. Right fucking now.”
“I don’t think so. I don’t think you’d want to give up your cushy life and go to jail.”
“Jail, who said anything about jail? If they ever caught me I’d just have my dad buy the shit and turn it into a country club. Trust me, I will never spend a day in jail behind something like you.”
“Why spend my money son? Use your own.”
“Dad? What are you doing here?” I turned to watch him walk through the door.
“I got a phone call.” And the caller joined him in the doorway.
“Dammit Track.” Fucker grinned at me.
“I didn’t tell your wife though, she followed you on her own.”
“Dad, you couldn’t stop her from coming here?”
“She moves almost as fast as you son, and she’s sneaky too.”
“What’re you doing here baby? I thought you were asleep.” I pulled her in and kissed her forehead, hoping that the viper’s words hadn’t hurt her. “How could I miss this show? You really dated that? You never once saw the crazy?” She didn’t even spare Mandy a glance. That’s my woman.
“Bitch, I really wish you would.” I looked around at Track’s outburst to see Mandy about to attack Sian from the side. I turned, putting Sian behind me, ready to knock her on her ass but dad interrupted me.
“You can leave now son.”
“Uh-uh, no way. I’m not leaving you here alone with her.” I didn’t like the tone of his voice.
“Don’t worry, I’m not alone.” Just then two cops that I’d never seen before came into the room and walked over to Mandy.
“What are you doing? Get your hands off me.”
“Ms. Taylor, you’re under arrest for extortion, breaking and entering….”
“What? Who did I extort?” Her eyes looked wild, trapped and I’m betting she wished she’d left well enough alone.
