He’s staring back at me, and I can feel the rage coming off him. I start to squirm in my seat. I don’t want Paul dead, but I also don’t want him to bother me anymore. I didn’t admit it to John because I didn’t want to bother him before his mission, but I have been scared. “Are you going to kill him?” I ask, half joking, half not.

“I’m going to stop him. He won’t mess with you again. What’s his last name?”

“Stevens. He works at Johnson and Schuster Accounting. He’s a senior accountant there.”

I wait for him to write it down, but he doesn’t. He puts his laptop in his bag. “When do you get off?”

I look at the big clock on the wall. “I can leave anytime. I just saw Story walk in. And the night manager should be here soon.”

“Story?” he asks.

I nod. “Yeah, she works here. That’s her name.”

He nods, rolling his shoulders again. “I need to check in with the team. I need your car keys so I can check your car. Then I’m going to drive you home and check the apartment.”

“Dylan, you don’t have to.”

He reaches for my hand and holds on to it. “I do have to. Neither he nor anyone else is going to mess with you again. Do you have the knife and picture?”

A warmth spreads up my face. It wasn’t the most flattering picture, and I really don’t want to share it with him. “I do. Why do you want it?”

“When I find the camera in your apartment, I’m going to track the signal to his computer or wherever he’s saving the images. I’ll need the picture and knife for the police.”

I pull my hand back, shaking my head. “This is already mortifying to know that someone is watching me and for you to see me like that; now you’re telling me everyone at the police station is going to see me naked?”

He grunts and shakes his head. “Do you trust me, Jenna?”

I shouldn’t. I just met him, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. “Yes. I trust you.”

He reaches across the table and palms my shoulder. “This is what I do for a living. No one will see the picture or any videos of you in a compromising position. No one will see you like that, I promise.”

I nod. “Except for you?” I ask breathlessly.

His eyes are locked on me. “Except for me. I’ll have to scrub the video before I turn it over. I’ll have to watch it to remove the parts I don’t want people to see.”

Oh my God, Paul is a bigger asshole than I thought. If I was a more vengeful person, I’d wish him dead at this point. “And once you do that—scrub the video if there is one—no one will see me—uh, see those?”

“I promise you, Jenna.”

It’s all too much. It’s like I’m being violated. “Okay.”

He didn’t expect me to agree. Hell, I didn’t expect to either, but he has a good plan, and he’s right. He does this for a living. I’m just going to have to trust him, no matter how hard that is.

I get up. “So car keys, picture, knife? They’re in my office. I’ll be right back.”

I walk off, and I can feel his eyes on me. Madison is watching me closely, and I ignore the way she’s wiggling her eyebrows at me as I walk past. I’m sure Dylan sees her doing it, but I can’t worry about that. Now I just have to worry about my brother on a mission overseas, my ex-boyfriend going psychotic, and then Dylan looking at probably nude video or pictures of me. Oh yeah, no big deal. I’ll just breathe and get through it.

Dylan

I take the keys and the manila folder that I assume holds the knife and the picture from her before going outside. Besides needing to check out her car, I also need a breather. Being this close to Jenna is hard. I want to touch her, hold her, kiss her, and there’s no way she’s ready for that. She’s freaked out... and she should be. Especially with everything she has going on.

I put the manila folder in my bag and walk out to her yellow convertible bug. I can’t help but smile when I see her car. It suits her. I put on gloves and open the car doors and the trunk. I grab the electronic bug sweeper from my bag and work from one end of the car to the other. It’s clean.

I close up the car and walk back to the shop. Constantly, I’m surveying the area, looking for anything or anyone that may be out of the ordinary. When I walk back in, Madison points me to the office door, and I knock on it before opening it.
