She crosses her arms over her chest, and it pushes her breasts up even further. The V-neck of her shirt hints at cleavage, and my mouth waters as my cock starts to lengthen in my jeans.

She lifts her shoulders in a shrug. “You could have found that out from hospital records, whatever.”

I shift in my seat to make room for my hardening member. It’s time to end this back and forth. “Do you have your phone on you?”

She nods and pulls her phone out of her apron. “Okay, I’m assuming that John sent you numbers in case you ever needed to get a hold of him.”

She nods again.

“Great. Search Ghost 3.”

Her eyelashes flutter as she looks down at her phone. Her eyes widen when she opens the contact. “Call it,” I tell her.

She starts shaking her head. “I’m only supposed to call if...”

“Call it,” I tell her again.

She rolls her eyes and pushes the call button. Before she can even put the phone to her ear, my phone on the table between us starts to ring. I pick it up and hold it out for her to see. The caller ID says Jenna Taylor. It pains me to know she’s been in my phone all this time. She’s been right there... and I didn’t know. One thing is for sure—I’m not going to waste any more time.

I look at his phone and then at him. He has my name in his phone. I have his number in mine. Holy crap!

“Wait! If John’s on a mission, why are you here? Why didn’t you go? I thought you all went together on these things.”

I feel euphoria, like I’ve stumped him and won some kind of game we’re playing or something. I’m smirking, knowing I’ve one-upped him but also trying to figure out why I’m fighting this so hard. He’s obviously who he says he is.

“I’m the tech guy. I go on a lot of the missions. The ones I don’t I can do from anywhere. Well, anywhere with Wi-Fi or hotspots so I can access satellites and the VPN...”

He keeps going on about tech stuff. No doubt he sounds super smart, but I can’t seem to take my eyes off his lips as they move. I barely notice he stops talking before he catches me staring at him, and I jerk my eyes back up to his. There’s laughter in his face, and the thought that he knows I’m attracted to him and he finds it funny doesn’t sit well with me at all.

“So why are you here? Did John send you?”

He sighs. “Yes. I’m here at John’s request.”

He wants to say more. It’s on the tip of his tongue, and I wait, but he presses his lips together firmly.

“Okay... so why did he send you to Los Angeles?”

He shifts in his seat. “He told me about Paul.”

Oh my God! He didn’t. Oh but no, I can tell he did by the pity I see on Dylan’s face. I put my hand to my forehead. “What exactly did he tell you?” I ask, enunciating each word. I’m going to kill my brother. I told him I had it handled.

Dylan shrugs. “Just that you had an ex giving you problems.”

I put my hands firmly on the top of the table and stand up. “Well, I’m sorry he sent you all the way across the country. You can go home now. I’m fine.”

He covers my hand with his own. I try to pull away, but it’s no use. He lifts my hand, stands up, and tugs me toward him.

“I’m not leaving, Jenna. I won’t leave town until I know that the ex is no longer going to be a problem. We can do this the hard way or the easy way; you get to pick.”

“Uh, hey, mister, you got a problem?” Madison asks, shoving herself next to me and pointing her finger into Dylan’s chest.

He is pissed. It’s obvious by the throb of the vein in his neck and the stare he gives Madison. He looks at the finger she’s poking in his chest, and images of him snapping her finger in two or something crosses my mind. Isn’t that something these specialized military men are trained to do? I’m sure even the smart tech guys have to know how to fight.

I grab Madison’s finger to stop her. “No, there’s no problem. Dylan was just leaving.”

“I’m not leaving,” he says, getting Madison riled up again.

He holds his hand up in front of Madison. His other one still has a death grip on mine. “I’m not leaving until I know Jenna is safe. I was sent here by her brother to take care of the ex. If Jenna wants me to leave after that, I will.”

My heart starts to hammer in my chest. Do I get a choice in this? Is he saying he’ll stay? I shake my head. Get it together, Jenna. That’s not what he meant at all.
