I shake his hand, and he slaps me on the shoulder with his other hand. "Not the game-winning goal," I correct. "That was Michael." I look around and see him standing with his wife.

"Nah." Nico shakes his head. "That was the closer. Yours was the game-winning one."

I laugh, looking to see that people are literally everywhere. My eyes find the blonde who was outside. She sits with Erika, Cooper’s wife, as they laugh at something. She gets up and looks around the table, asking them something, before turning and making her way to the bar.

"I’m going to get something to drink," I tell him. "Do you want anything?" He shakes his head.

Making my way to the bar, I’m stopped a couple of times to talk about the game tonight. I try not to be rude to any of them. When I get close to the bar, I see her leaned over it, looking around for someone to take her order. I spot the bartender at the other end of the bar. Slipping in beside her, I hold up my hand, and the bartender sees me right away. He finishes serving the round of shots before turning and making his way over to me.

"I’ll take a bottle of water," I say and then turn to look at the blonde. Fuck, she’s even better looking up close. "And I think the lady wants to order something."

"Thank you." She nods at me and looks at the bartender. "I’ll take a whiskey on ice."

With a nod, he turns to fill our order. "Have we met before?" The words come out before I can take them back, and I swear even I want to groan at how cheesy they sound.

She turns to face me and puts one of her elbows on the bar. I take in her outfit, the running shoes making it known that she gives zero shits about dressing up. Usually, the girls who hang around the rookies and stuff are always dressed to the nines. Fuck, even a couple of my dates have shown up with platform stilettos. "We sure have." Her answer shocks me.

I turn to face her, mimicking her stance. "I think if we met, I would remember." I smirk at her. The bartender comes back, placing my water bottle in front of me and setting her whiskey on one of the napkins that he lays down.

She picks up the whiskey and takes a long pull from it. I wait for her to hiss from the burning, but instead, she takes a step closer to me. Her smell has a familiarity to it. Looking at her, all I can think of is this woman is confident. Even the way she stands here, she commands the room, and fuck if it doesn’t make her even sexier. I try to place her, looking into her blue eyes. She’s fucking beautiful.

"I’m Cooper Grant’s sister,” she says, and my stomach sinks. "We met at my cousin Michael’s wedding." I don’t remember half of the night, having drunk too much with the rookies to pretend I was still young. She leans in just a touch closer, looking around to make sure that no one can hear her. I don’t know what I’m expecting her to say, but it’s definitely not the words that come next. "We fucked twice, and when I went back for a third, you …" She looks down at my cock, my eyes going big in shock. "Well, had performance issues." She takes another sip of her whiskey. "Have a great night." With a smirk, she walks away, leaving me with my mouth hanging open.

Chapter 7

Frances

I roll my lips, trying not to laugh as I walk away from Wilson. Bet he wasn’t expecting to hear how we knew each other. I make my way over to Vivienne, who is laughing with Erika about something. "I’m going to head out." I down the rest of my whiskey and put the empty glass on the table. She starts to stand. "You don’t have to come. Stay and mingle."

"I’m exhausted, and my feet literally feel like ogres." She points down at the black heels she thought were a good idea. I kiss everyone goodbye, the whole time feeling eyes on me, and when I look back at the bar, he’s standing there looking at me. His mouth is no longer hanging, and his hands are tucked in his pockets. If I thought he was hot at the wedding, I was wrong. Also, his musky scent had my body on alert.

"Okay, you two." I hear Cooper from beside me. "Let’s go."

I look over at him, confused. "You’re leaving?" He nods his head as his hand slips into Erika’s. The four of us walk across the street, and as soon as Vivienne gets into the car, she slides her shoes off.
