After parking my car and locking the door, I walk into the house and call my sister, who answers after one ring. "Hey," she says, and I can hear honking in the background, so I know she’s in the city.

"Hey," I say, going straight for the stairs toward my bedroom. "Are you busy?"

"No," she says. "Just had lunch with a couple of friends from college. I’m going to stay at the brownstone."

"Okay, I have something to say." I toss my purse on the bench in front of my king-sized bed. "And something to ask, but I don’t want you to make a big deal out of it." I sit next to the purse and kick off my ballerina flats.

"Like now or after?" she asks, chuckling.

"Both. You can’t give me a hard time now or after." I close my eyes, knowing that eventually I’ll piss her off and she’ll throw today in my face.

"Fine," she huffs, and I hear a car door close, and the sound of horns fades into the distance.

I take a deep breath and hold it when I say the words. "I’m going on a date with Wilson." I don’t have to say more because she gasps in shock.

"I’m sorry," she says. "You are going to have to start way before I have a date with Wilson."

"Ugh," I groan out. "Just, I don’t have time. He’s going to pick me up at eight, and it’s already six thirty."

"Fine," she huffs. "But tomorrow, I want the whole scoop."

"You’ll get the scoop Sunday," I tell her. "I’ll be busy tomorrow. Fucking his brains out." I get up and head over to the walk-in closet behind the wall that my bed is against. "See, I’m good at that. I know how to handle that. I just don’t know about the whole date part."

"Why would you agree to go on a date with him if you don’t want to?"

"Because the date will lead to sex, and the sex is what I want." I roll my eyes. "Can we focus?" I ask her. "What does one wear on a date?"

She laughs, and not just a little, a full-on belly laugh. A laugh that you run out of breath and then cry tears. "Forget I asked."

"No," she wheezes out. "I’m just, how can you be in your twenties and never been out on a date?"

"Bye," I say, about to hang up, and I know that if it’s not her, I’m going to have to call Erika, and I know that Cooper is going to be there and well, ain’t no need for any of the men in my family to know that I’m going on a date tonight. Ugh, just calling it a date gets my armpits sweaty and my stomach rumbling.

"Okay, fine," she says, and I hear the other car door shut. Then her jogging up the steps. "What do you need to know?”

“Well, one, what does one wear on a date?" I ask, looking at the clothes in front of me.

"You wear what you would wear when you are going out to a bar. Did he tell you where he is taking you?"

"He didn’t tell me anything except to wear what I wanted," I say. "But I would like to wear something I can fuck him in his car with."

"So a dress would be your only option," Vivi says. "Or loose shorts you can push to the side." It’s my turn to laugh.

"Oh, really?" I say. "Interesting little tidbit."

"It was in Greece. I was doing ouzo with Stefano while Uncle Mark and Auntie Vivienne went back to the house."

"You banged Stefano?" I shriek out. "Oh my God."

"I didn’t bang Stefano, idiot. I banged the waiter in the bathroom." She laughs. "That was a good night. So I’m thinking you go with a skirt."

"I don’t want to be that dressed up," I say, huffing out. "Like I want to look nice, but I don’t want him to know I made an effort." I push one hanger against the other and stop at the little black dress I bought last year. I snap a picture and send it to her. "I’m going to wear this."

"Oh, that is sexy and flirty, and you can wear flats or even heels." I just nod my head, looking at the other wall that holds my shoes.

"I think I’m going to wear my red bottoms," I say, omitting that I wore them at the wedding, and it gave us the perfect height for me to bend over. "Okay, so I got the outfit. Got the underwear."

"Got yourself all waxed and exfoliated?” We both laugh out because I totally got myself waxed and ready for tonight.

"Okay, I think I’m good," I say. "Wish me luck."

"Godspeed." She laughs. "One small step for mankind, one giant leap for mankind." I hang up on her as she laughs her ass off.
