“Oh, I’m sorry. You have to excuse me. Jenny is like a sister to me. I want to be out there myself.”

“I understand. I’m sure we will find her. Has she been seeing anyone?”

“I don’t think so.” Ant pulls a face beside me. “What?”

“She has been seeing someone. He’s not her boyfriend, but she’s hooking up with some guy.”

“Really? But she hooked up with Leo, at least I think they did.”

“I’m only telling you what she told me. Neither of them wants to be exclusive or committed, but there was a guy.”

“Oh,” I say and sag my shoulders, feeling like such a bad friend.

“We don’t always know people as well as we think we do,” Uncle Blake says and gives Ant a pointed look.

“Not tonight,” Ant says tightly.

“The clock is ticking.”

“Am I missing something?”

“No, I don’t think you are. Anthony, on the other hand, I believe he is.”

I look at my husband. Even with the anger written all over his face, he looks drop-dead gorgeous. The black suit and white shirt are perfect on him.

A tailored match made in heaven. The top three open buttons on his shirt add a little something to the look. If I weren’t so stressed out over Jenny, I would have tried to pounce before we left the house.

Once Pit took AJ downstairs, we had an entire hour to ourselves. I spent most of it dialing Kid’s phone. I’m going to strangle her when we find her.

I shake my head clear. “I have no secrets from my husband, but I get the feeling this is what you’re insinuating,” I say in annoyance.

Uncle Blake sits back in his seat. “This might be so, but there are times when we don’t know we are holding secrets. Things the ones around us should know.”

I become frustrated. This feels like the other day when Pit was sure I knew something I wasn’t telling them. I had told them all I knew.

“What exactly do you think I need to tell my husband?”

“We’re family, Lex. No need to think I mean you any ill will. I just happen to think Anthony should know who Seth Grayson used to be to you.”

My mouth falls open. That troublemaker is still trying to ruin my life, even in death. I haven’t seen Seth since I walked out of that courtroom. The same day I met Ant for the first time.

I turn to Anthony and lock eyes with him. I truly don’t have any secrets to hide from him. I lift my head and answer the question.

“Seth was my ex. The one I told you about. The guy I was with right before I met you.”

Ant looks relieved once I answer. A ton of thoughts cross his face after. He settles on one and turns to say something to his uncle. However, an outburst across the dining room cuts him off.

I’m taken aback at first, this being an upscale restaurant. This is the type of place I would meet Uncle Marvin and Aunt Monica in. However, I’m more blown away when I see who the person is going off.

“You stay the fuck away from her or I’ll kill you. Why care about me now? I don’t need shit from you. I never ask you for shit. You made it clear you wouldn’t help me if I did.

“You’re a selfish prick. You’ve never thought about anyone but yourself. All the lying and stealing.

“If you didn’t stand to gain something from me, I don’t think you would have ever tried to be a father to me. Not that you’ve been worth a shit at it to begin with.

“No… you stay out of this,” Kelex barks at the guy next to him, trying to pull him back into his seat. “I know what you want from me. I know what you’ve been waiting for. You’re going to die waiting if I have anything to say about it.

“Or you’ll have to kill me to get it, like you did my mother, you son of a bitch,” he snarls and turns to leave.

When the guy who had tried to calm him down stands to follow, I take note he’s that Jeff guy from Vegas. The man Kelex is yelling at says something to halt Jeff and he looks back with a scowl on his face. The two seem to have words, but both of their expressions are impassive. I wish I were close enough to hear them.

“You have your answers, Anthony. I need to go,” Uncle Blake says abruptly, then leaves.

“Well, this was fun,” I mutter.

Ox

My head is spinning. Forget this puzzle I’m piecing together in my own life. If Josh believes his father was responsible for his mother’s death, everything is starting to make sense.
