Holy. Crap.
Greer stared up at Butch in shock. Then at Emme who was cackling like an evil dictator.
“Butchie, you’ve been slimed,” Emme yelled.
“Emme!” he roared, making Greer cry out in surprise and cover her ears.
Although, Emme didn’t stop laughing.
“I can’t believe you did this, Emme!”
The door swung open and a dark-haired, scary looking guy stepped in, frowning at Butch. “Why the fuck are you yelling at Emme?”
Butch glared at Emme then over at the other guy. “Look what she did to me! She put slime in my hair!”
“Man, you barely have any hair,” the other guy said.
“And I think it looks better blue,” Emme replied.
The other man frowned at Emme. “What are you doing standing on the sofa? Get down, Wildcat, before you hurt yourself.”
He lifted her down and Emme threw her arms around him. “Reyes! I was so worried about you! Are you all right? Is anyone hurt?”
This was Reyes? Okay, she guessed it made sense.
“Yeah, there’s a few injuries. Hack is patching everyone up. I wanted to come see you and let you know what’s going on before you tried to break the door down.”
“I’d never do that, Daddy.”
Whoa. Greer would be in trouble for lying like that.
Reyes gave Emme a knowing look and lightly patted her ass.
“I can’t believe you slimed me,” Butch muttered.
Reyes sighed and gave Emme a stern look. “Want to explain yourself, Wildcat?”
Emme pouted. “It was just a bit of fun. And he scared Greer.”
Reyes stiffened as Butch groaned.
“Is that why she’s hiding behind the couch?” Reyes asked.
What? Shit. She’d thought he hadn’t seen her. So much for an excellent hiding spot.
“I didn’t mean to scare her,” Butch explained. “I was just trying to get her to safety, but she started to fight me. Hack put me in charge of her.”
Reyes nodded. “All right. Emme, you need to stay in here with Greer for a bit longer. Butch, I need you to come with me and help settle things.”
“Fucking Rykers,” Butch muttered. “What were they even doing here? Who was in the trunk?”
“Johnson,” Reyes said. “He was beaten up pretty bad. Those three idiots who arrived here earlier failed to mention that not only was Johnson with them, but that he hadn’t returned with them.”
Butch started swearing. “So much for loyalty.”
“Oh, I’ll be having words with them. Seems they were out riling up the Rykers on the edge of their territory. Or what was once the boundary. The Rykers are desperately trying to grab more area. It’s a fucking mess. Anyway, our guys fucked up and left Johnson. So the Rykers decided to send a message to us not to fuck with them.” Reyes ran his hand over his face.
“Are we in danger?” Emme asked worriedly.
“Nothing for you to worry about,” Reyes said. “I’ll just have to soothe some ruffled feathers and knock a few idiotic heads together.”
“Guessing that’s where I come in,” Butch said, cracking his knuckles.
“Yeah, but it would be good if you got that slime out of your hair first. You look like a Smurf.”
Butch grumbled something before stomping off.
Reyes gave Emme a stern look. “What have I said about pranking people? You’re going to get yourself in real trouble one day.”
“But you’ll always protect me, Daddy.”
“Course I will. But I expect you to behave yourself, understand?”
“Fine, Daddy. I’ll try.”
Letting Emme go, he surprised Greer by coming over to crouch down in front of her.
“Hi, Greer. I’m Reyes.”
“Hi,” she whispered.
“I’m going to get Hack in here as soon as I can, all right?”
Huh. She kind of expected someone as tough looking as he was to tell her to harden up.
“I’m all right.”
Reyes studied her. “Course you are. I just need you to hold on a bit longer and I’ll get him in here for you.”
“Thanks.”
“Emme, look after her.”
“Course I will. Don’t worry about us, Daddy. Anyone comes in here and I’ll use my super-duper crave maggie moves on them.”
“Course you will. But I’m going to lock this door anyway.”
Emme sighed. “Darn it. He’s always one step ahead of me.”
Yeah. Daddies normally were.

Hack rushed into Reyes’s office as soon as he unlocked it. When Reyes told him that Greer was hiding behind the sofa, looking pale and scared, Hack quickly finished the guy he was patching up and rushed over here.
“Greer? Greer!”
She peeked her head out over the arm of the sofa.
“Oh fuck, baby. What are you doing down there?” He moved over to her, holding out his arms.
She stood and threw herself at him and he held her tight. “You’re okay. Everything is all right.” He ran his hand up and down her back as she shook in his arms.
Shit. Fuck.
He sat on the sofa with her in his arms. Reyes was already behind his desk with Emme sitting sideways on his lap.
“Fuck, tonight was a shit show,” Spike said as he stormed into the office. He sat in the chair across from Reyes. There was a cut on his forehead.
