“Sorry, Demi. I guess it’s time I feed these guys. Uncle Bishop will get you another one, baby. Don’t cry,” Bishop says.

She pouts and crosses her arms over her chest as she glares at him. I have to bite my lip to keep from laughing. Bishop stands and hands me Cooper.

It doesn’t escape me that a bunch of moms have gravitated toward our area. A glance around tells me they’re all trying to pretend they’re not paying our table any attention. A part of me wonders if they’ve identified Bishop or if it’s just the fact that we’re three men with a bunch of kids.

“You want something?” Bishop asks.

“Whatever you get for yourself.”

“I’m coming with you,” Demi says as she jumps up and marches around the table to grab Bishop’s hand to follow him.

I can see he’s fighting back a laugh as Demi gives him a stern look. He nods and walks off with our little cousin in tow.

I turn my attention back to Carson and Cooper to make sure they don’t attack anyone else’s food. Dwayne’s boys are silent as they devour their food. Dwayne has a burger that looks so good, my stomach begins to grumble.

Running a hand through my nephew’s hair, I kiss the top of each of their heads. They smells so good, I close my eyes to take a deep inhale. They smell of comfort and all things good in the world.

Yeah, I guess I would love being a father.

CHAPTER 27

Caught off Guard

Reminisce

I’ve spent most of the day cleaning my house. It’s the least I can do to clear my mind, yoga has done as much as it’s going to for all the things I have going on in my head. It’s been three weeks since my last date with Sheldon.

I’ve been making excuses to get out of the dates he’s tried to set up. Now that I’ve admitted my feelings about Knight to myself and we’ve been spending time together as friends, I don’t know what to do about Sheldon. He’s still the safe option.

“I’m coming,” I call out to whoever’s ringing my doorbell.

I pad barefoot to the door. I had been about to undress to take a shower now that my house is spotless.

When I open the door, the last person I’m expecting is standing on my doorstep. Knight and I have been in the friend zone in the last three weeks. After the bar, we went to his place and passed out on his couch.

The next morning he made me breakfast and took me home like any friend would do. Since, we’ve been talking on the phone here and there. We’ve met up at my sister’s place to play with the kids or for Saga and Bishop’s game nights, but we haven’t crossed the line, and we haven’t gone out alone again.

Which is why I’m surprised to see him here, but I won’t deny that he looks fine as hell. His hair is tossed like he’s been running his hands through it. He has a little glow as if he’s been surfing today.

The way his jeans are fitting snuggly to his thighs makes my mouth water. His tats are on full display as his T-shirt fits tightly to his arms and chest. Perfection.

“Hey, did we make plans or something?”

“No, I was close by and thought I’d stop in to see if you wanted to chill. I get a bit restless at the apartment alone,” he replies.

I’d rather know he’s alone than with that woman he was on that date with. It’s not my place to pry into what that was all about, so I’ve kept my mouth shut on the subject. Even better, if he’s here with me, he can’t be somewhere with her. Yes, I’m still jealous.

“Come in,” I say as I step back to open the door wider.

I remember that my head is wrapped in a scarf and I look a hot mess from cleaning. I probably smell too. I stifle a groan. Things like this only happen to me.

“Am I interrupting something?”

“No, I was just about to hop in the shower. I’ve been cleaning all day.”

I don’t miss the heated look that comes to his eyes. My nipples harden against my T-shirt, and I remember I’m not wearing a bra. Even with my modest cleavage, I’m sure he can see the peaks through the thin fabric.

“I can hang out in the living room, maybe order something to eat while you shower.”

“Okay, cool.” I nod as I cross my arms over my chest.

“What are you in the mood for?”

“Chinese or pizza works for me.”

“Chinese and pizza it is,” he says with a grin. I shake my head.

Knight can eat. I’ve watched him and his brothers devour twice the amount of food I can handle in one sitting. I guess that’s why they’re all huge men.
