CHAPTER 35

This Could Be Us

Reminisce

I laugh so hard as Knight dances around my living room. He turns and wiggles his ass, his jeans hanging low on his hips. He looks so good, shirtless and barefoot. His hair a wavy mess.

But my poor baby can’t dance for shit. He’s solely relying on his good looks at the moment. He would be the stripper at the club who’s there strictly for eye candy. No one would dare to give him a solo routine on center stage.

It’s only been two days so far, but they’ve been the best two days of my life. “Sexy Back” by Justin Timberlake plays through the speakers as Knight puts on a real show. Bless his little heart.

I fall back on the couch laughing as he struts in front of me and starts to roll his body, looking like he might be having a mild seizure. I will never understand this. The way he kisses and fucks does not equate to his lack of rhythm when music is on.

“What’s so funny, baby?” he asks as he plucks me from the couch.

I wrap around his body, not able to stop laughing. He slips his warm hand beneath my T-shirt and rubs my back. This is the first time in ages I’ve spent days in my T-shirt and panties. It feels so liberating.

“You,” I laugh out when I finally catch my breath. “How are you so bad at dancing? I’ve seen your brothers dance. They’re not half as bad as you are. What happened?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says jerking his shoulders as he tries to show me his moves.

I throw my head back in hysterics. It’s too much. I have tears rolling from the corners of my eyes. He cups my face and starts to kiss me. I grin and decide to take over to show him how to catch the beat.

It doesn’t take long at all for him to get into the groove. I moan into his warm mouth and relish in the consuming power of his kiss. Damn, that’s what I’m talking about. My panties start to get wet.

“There you go,” I breathe against his lips and nip the bottom one as he takes over the rhythm I set.

“Damn, Rem,” he groans chasing after my mouth.

See, it makes no sense. He kisses right in time to the music again proving the disconnect between his dance skills and his lovemaking ones. Smoothing my hands over his shoulders, I coax his tongue into my mouth to do a little dance.

“Wall or knees?”

“What?” he pants into my mouth.

“You want to fuck me against the wall or should I drop to my knees?”

“Fuck,” he hisses and moves across the room to slam my back against the wall. “Both.”

And there you have it. Our afternoon gets a whole lot steamier. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Knight

“I missed that crazy ass laugh,” I snort out.

“My laugh is not crazy,” she says as she lies on her side on the hardwood floor of her living room.

The sweat has dried, and we’ve caught our breath, but we haven’t moved for I don’t know how long. This easy, lazy mood is so natural. I could see myself doing this every weekend.

Lazy Saturdays where I get to look in her eyes and talk about nothing and everything all at the same time. Days to hear her giggle at the silly shit I think up just to get her to laugh. Moments to spend engulfed in her presence.

“It is, baby.”

“No, it’s not.” She pouts.

I lift and lean over to nip her lip and peck her forehead. “Stop pouting.” I chuckle. “I love it. Your face lights up with it. It’s like music, but it makes you want to laugh too because it looks like you enjoy it so much.”

She stares at me for a moment speechless. I think over my words as I search her face. She reaches for me and cups my jaw.

“Knight—”

My phone rings cutting her off. I growl as the ringing demands my attention. I’m on leave, but because of the nature of the case I just came off and now this shit with Broker, I need to be available to my superiors in case of an emergency. If the Cap is calling me in for some more bullshit, I’m going to lose my shit.

“Hold that thought,” I say and peck her lips.

I get up and go for my phone across the room. I don’t recognize the number, which pulls a frown. I pick up and place the phone to my ear.

“Hello.”

There’s silence, but before I can speak again the line goes dead. I pull the phone from my ear and stare at it. That makes twice now, I get this feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I catch myself before I let the tension show in my body. I don’t want to alarm Reminisce. We’ve been having a great last few days. I don’t want to ruin it because of a call and feeling in my gut.
