“Burger and fries?” he asks taking off his sunglasses.

“Fries yes, skip the burger and give me a hotdog with chili instead.” His lips twitch, but he doesn’t respond, instead he just keeps staring at me. “What?” I finally ask.

“You need to try and not get into trouble while I’m over there.”

“It will be a hardship, but I’ll see what I can do,” I mutter, making his lips twitch more.

Then, he surprises me, by leaning down and kissing me. Only it’s not my lips he kisses. It’s my cheek and as he slides his kiss against my skin, his fingers, tease the side of my neck.

“Nothing but trouble,” he whispers, his breath softly hitting against the shell of my ear.

I don’t know why that should make me feel so warm inside, but it definitely does.

“What happens if I don’t want to go back?” Kayden asks and I smile. I definitely know where she’s coming from.

We’re in some small no name park. There are people milling about, but for the most part it’s empty. Kayden is sitting on my jacket I spread out for her, and I’m lying on the grass, my head in her lap. I couldn’t for the fucking life of me tell you how we ended up like this. Fuck, I don’t even remember being comfortable enough with a woman to be like this. The closest I’ve been with a woman was sleeping after we fucked, or the actual fucking itself. Never have I just relaxed in the bright sun and talked…

Which is all we’ve done.

If I’m honest, that’s all she’s done. I’ve said very little, but I’ve heard her. I’ve listened to her talk about her parents and the love they share. I’ve memorized her laugh as she’s talking about her brothers and the love she has for her uncles. Her uncle’s names I recognize as members of the club and the men I’ve met don’t jive with her sweet memories of them. The life she describes seems foreign to me. I’ve been in the club life off and on most of my adulthood. I’ve never truly been a member, choosing instead to ride nomad, drifting from one place to another. I’ve done this mostly because I never felt at home anywhere but in the service. I’ve always been the loner, the one who watched others from a distance. That’s why it’s so fucking strange that I can’t seem to get any distance from Kayden. She’s so fucking young, too damn young. I can’t even remember being her age but, when she talks, she doesn’t seem that young.

Christ, I’m in a hell of a lot of trouble.

“You’re quiet. I’m here, talking your head off and I don’t think you’ve said five words, Chains.”

“I don’t talk much, Kayden. That’s who I am. I’ve never spoken much.”

“Why’s that?”

“I don’t know. I guess I am of the mind if you don’t have anything important to say there’s no point in opening your mouth.”

“What if I ask you questions? Will you answer?”

“Got nothing to hide, Baby Girl.”

“Okay then, where are you from?”

“Been on the road so long, I think that qualifies as saying I’m from all over.”

“Your eyes are closed and you can’t see, but I’m giving you that look.”

“What look?”

“The one that says you’re being a big, fat jerk right now,” she mumbles.

I look up at her then and her face is soft, her hair curtains her face and her lips call to me. Plump, soft, and inviting…

“If that’s what that look says, you can give it to me anytime,” I mutter, reaching up to hook my hand against the back of her neck and pull her mouth down as I lean up to capture it at the same time.

She immediately opens for me and I press my advantage by taking over her mouth, claiming it, because that’s exactly what I want to do to this little firecracker who soothes something in me that I never realized needed soothing.

“You really know how to kiss, Chains,” she gasps after we break apart and despite being turned on, being hard as a rock, I laugh.

I’m used to women who play games, who plot and think out their every move when it comes to men. Kayden doesn’t even try. Maybe it’s because she’s so young, or maybe that’s just who she is, but whatever the reason, I want more of her.

“Can I kiss you again?” she asks and… fuck.

“Come down here, Kayden.”

“I…” she responds, unsure and looking around.

“Lay down here with me, Baby Girl,” I tell her, taking her hand, while lifting my head and shifting so I can pull her beside me.

She curls into me immediately, fitting into me perfectly—fitting as if she was made to be there. I half roll so that I’m leaning over her, my thumb brushing against her soft skin.
