I know all the reports about us were coming from his camp. That he was trying to smear her name while making it seem like his son had been a fucking choirboy. After the first broadcast I’d made a point of not letting her watch that shit, but I have a dossier filled with everything that has been said so far.

Just as I’d expected there were whispers about us having an affair while he was alive. She hasn’t heard that one yet and I’m hoping she doesn’t, but there’s nothing I can do to stop people from saying shit short of ending their dumb asses for being stupid.

“Ready!” She announced this shit half an hour after I thought she was already done. Women! I looked her over again with a certain gleam in my eye. “Come ‘ere.” She gave me that look that said she knew what I was up to but came to me all the same.

I ran my hands up her sides over the dress that clung to her hips and flared around her knees. I took a quick look at my watch and saw we barely had five minutes left. Still, I can do a lot of damage in five minutes. Just as soon as I opened my mouth to suggest a quickie the damn doorbell rang. This fuck!

I followed her downstairs where Mutt and Jeff were waiting. I quirked my brow at Kev since I hadn’t called him and it was his day off. Before I could ask him what the fuck he explained. “I was in the city already.” I looked from one to the other and kept my mouth shut. Some things are better left unsaid.

Although Dave pretends to be my driver he’s never once sat out in the car while I ate, unless it was a business meeting which he claims makes his ass itch. So the four of us headed to Le Bernadin which was her choice because she’d heard about the place but had never been.

From the way she said it I knew there was a story behind that, and since I was sure it involved the ex I dropped that shit like a hot potato. I’m thinking she didn’t realize the exclusivity of the place and just who its patrons are. The other two had a pretty good idea and the three of us exchanged looks.

We drove to fifty first street on the West side and the place was already packed. My wife didn’t think anything about suggesting one of the most exclusive places in the city without reservations and I figured she was getting the hang of being married to a man with means.

I gave my name and we were seated in less than five minutes. I have no idea who they bumped to get us the fine table in the middle of the chaos, but every damn eye in the place was on us. It could be the fact that my woman is a statuesque blonde who looked fuck hot, or they could be staring at the Motley crew of misfits.

We weren’t seated long before I felt the tingle and looked around. “Fuck me!” The others turned and looked in the same direction and I don’t know what I expected when she saw the senator at a table filled with other suits but it wasn’t what she did next.

She just turned and looked at the menu like he hadn’t been tormenting her for the better part of four years. “I think I’ll try the langoustine followed by the striped bass. You choose the wine, I’ve never been very good at that.” She folded the menu and the three of us were just staring at her like what the fuck.

I was about to call the host over to ask for a private room but she stopped me. “I’m following your suggestion of not letting him get to me. Why do you think I chose this place?” Say what now? Kev and Dave were beaming at her like proud older brothers while I was still trying to decide if I was comfortable with him being in the same air space as her.

We ordered our starters and wine and then the show started. I could feel his eyes on our table the whole time as she leaned into me, kissed my cheek, and held my hand. It was only then that I felt the slight tremble and knew that she was scared shitless. I leaned over and whispered in her ear.

“I’m proud of you, but if it gets to be too much we’re out of here.” She shook her head no and went back to talking to the others, paying especially close attention to Kevin. I didn’t have to guess why, I know the senator for all his pontificating on screen is a racist fuck. Fucking douche.
