“Don’t stress it, baby,” Dylan said. “We’re enjoying the nice, warm weather, and each other.”

He reached out, took her hand, and locked their fingers together. It seemed to her like the most natural thing in the world. Since getting back, even though it had been less than twenty-four hours, she had thought some nasty kind of reality might set in. It hadn’t.

She loved being around Dylan.

What scared her, and she didn’t know if she should tell him, was that she was slowly falling in love with him. There was even a strong chance that there was no more falling to do. She had never felt this way about a man before. Her heart had never raced for anyone, and that was just being close to him.

It was crazy. People didn’t fall in love in such a small space of time. It wasn’t possible. At least that’s what she kept trying to tell herself, and yet her body, her heart, and even her mind had other ideas.

Buttercup drew her out of her thoughts by jumping onto her lap and making her grunt just a little from the force of the pounce.

“Oh, my, hello, Buttercup.” She gave the dog a stroke. “You’re just so cute, aren’t you? So cute.”

“She loves you,” Dylan said, reaching over and giving her a pet.

“You never told me how she came into your life,” Robin said.

“Ah, now that’s a mystery. I found her wandering the streets alone. It was late, and when I stopped the car, she came to me. I was shocked as I’d never considered myself a dog person before. I took her to the vet, and we left her there, I think a week, and no one came to claim her. For some reason, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Even though, if a previous owner had been worried sick, of course I’d be glad to have found her for them. But a part of me wanted no one to come forward, and they didn’t, so I took her. And now, I’m not going to let anything happen to her.”

He gave the back of her neck a rub and then checked the time.

“Walk time.” They spoke together in unison.

They got to their feet and as they were about to make their way out of the house, Dylan got a call.

“Crap, I’ve got to take this.”

Robin smiled and reached for the lead. “Go ahead. I’ll see you out at the field, and if you don’t make it, I know to come straight back.”

He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her in close.

She loved it when his lips were on his.

I’m in love with this man.

And she knew for the first time ever that this was real love.

Dylan growled as he ran his hand down her back, going toward her ass, but then his phone interrupted, and she chuckled.

Leaving the house, she made her way across the road and started to head up the street. She noticed the car that was randomly stationed outside her and Dylan’s house, and had been since the moment they moved in. Most of the time she ignored it, but this time, she chanced a look to see the man she’d purchased the house from, as well as an older woman, and a guy she had only ever seen around the cars.

“Evening,” she said, trying to be polite.

“Hello, sweetheart, how is it falling in love?” the older woman asked.

“Elizabeth!” the guy she didn’t know said.

“What? You don’t think she should know?” Elizabeth asked.

She looked from Elizabeth to the guy she didn’t know, to … ah, yes, Jaxson. The teacher. She remembered him now.

“What should I know?” This was all a little strange to her, and not something she was used to. Glancing between the small group, she had known there to be other people with them, more men and women, but it was just the three of them today.

Buttercup wandered over to the older woman, and gave her a fuss.

The older woman sighed, and stroked the dog. “You know what, boys, I think I can handle this.”

She had noticed the woman’s leather cut, but she couldn’t quite read the name, and it seemed rude to tell her to turn so that she could read it. From what she could tell, it was some kind of motorcycle club.

Robin kept glancing at the woman, a little nervous to have the woman walking beside her since she didn’t know her. She only recognized her from standing beside the car.

“It’s a lovely evening,” Robin said.

“So, are you and the grump getting it on?” Elizabeth asked, as they entered the main gates at the field.

“Er, what?”

“You heard me, sweetheart.”

“I don’t think this is appropriate.”

“So, I’m going to take that answer as yes. I also want to know if you’re in love with him.”

Robin looked around the field, hoping to find any kind of reprieve, but even Buttercup had run off and was rolling over onto her back, looking like the happiest dog in the world. Robin didn’t know what to say or do.
