That afternoon Dave came running through my door hours before we were slated to leave and Kev wasn’t too far behind. “You’ve got to see this, turn on the T.V.” He did the shit himself after asking me to.

“I can unequivocally assure you that Gavin is not that kind of man. There was no one else in our relationship, no third party. As a matter of fact, though Gavin and I decided to amicably split for our own personal reasons, we still remain friends.”

I watched as some reporter stuck a microphone in Amy’s face on screen. She was dressed for the office so I wasn’t sure when it had been filmed. “I told you she’d go that route.”

“Wait, there’s more. This one is a surprise. It’s been on all the news stations since early this morning.”

Giselle was upstairs packing like we were moving out of the country so I knew she’d be occupied for a little while yet. She’s such a girl! I hadn’t said anything to her about what was going on, so she just thinks we’re going away just to go away.

On the screen on a different station I saw Celeste the stylist talking to a group of reporters.

“Horse shit. I’ve known Giselle Sorrento for many years, long before she got married the first time, she’s not that kind of girl. In fact, I’m exceedingly grateful that she’s found someone like Mr. Sorrento after the years of hell spent with that snake she was married to before.”

“What kind of man disassociates his wife from all her friends and everyone she knows? Ask yourself, when is the last time you saw her out and about except for the few times she accompanied him to some stuffy family thing that was all for show? Instead of blackening her name, as a female you should really do your research.” She glared at one of the reporters.

“Damn, she’s good, and we didn’t even have to ask her.” Kev looked at the screen with admiration. I just smiled as I watched while she went on to say more and the studio was busy bleeping out most of whatever else she had to say. I could only imagine.

She’d effectively turned the tables on the senator. No doubt anyone watching will start thinking on the things she’d said. And with the way things work these days, I’m sure any thinking person would come to the right conclusion.

“We figured you wouldn’t have seen it but I must’ve watched that shit like ten times. Between that sound bite and what uncle has cooking, the senator is going to have a very busy weekend.” Dave rubbed his hands together with glee.

“Yeah, too bad we’re not going to be here to watch. I wanted ringside seats.” Kev looked a little putout at that and slumped down in a chair. “I didn’t invite you, you can always stay here.” He gave me a dirty look because we both know that until the senator has been dealt with I wouldn’t trust anyone else to watch our backs.

Not that I need it, but I won’t let my ego get in the way of protecting her. If I have to put ten men on her at all times then that’s what the fuck I’ll do until this nightmare is over. The phone rang and I answered without looking to see who it was, too focused on the shenanigans of the stylist.

“Yeah!”

“Your flight is at seven this evening?”

“Dad?” How the fuck…

“Let’s do lunch, bring my daughter in law. You know where.”

“Twenty-one?” He just grinned. The fuck is he up to?

Club twenty-one is about the most elitist place you can imagine in the middle of Manhattan. Even where we ate the night before doesn’t come close and they’re in damn near the same vicinity. On any given day you can expect to see diplomats, local politicians and any number of bigwigs sitting down to a meal.

“We’re going to lunch.” The two of them grinned like they knew something I didn’t. Then again they’re accustomed to my family’s antics. Dad does have a way of getting the point across without throwing any punches.

I headed upstairs to tell her while the other two raided the closet in one of the guestrooms for something to wear. This is not the kind of place you can get away with the slacks and silk tees they were wearing, a jacket was needed at all times.

“You still packing?” She was standing over the open luxury luggage looking lost and just a little bit frustrated. “I can’t seem to remember how to pack.”

“Then don’t, we’ll just buy what you need when we get there. By the way dad just called and invited us to lunch. You’ve got about an hour. Want me to pick out something for you to wear?”

She nodded and looked happy to have something to distract her from packing. “I heard the door, are the guys here?”
